Holy schamoly!
Well I'm new to the classic Mini scene, and I'm about to step into some 10" shoes for mine. Never knew this hand mounting was a thing. Is it a common practice? I better get all learned up before this kinda things happens. Is that what everyone with 10's are doing, or else deal with this consequence? I'm planning on getting the JBW 6x10 ET-7 MiniLights with Yoko A032's. I want to make sure I don't go down this road.
Well, your experience sucks. But at least the shop that you dealt with really stepped up and took care of the not only the bill of repair but gave you a car rental on top of that....for a whole month. That's damn good.

Simple recipe for Excitement: Take 1 Classic Mini. Throw in 1590cc's of engine. Add 5 gears. A dash of 94 octane. A sprinkle of style inside and out. Toss in 1 MadMan and finally heat tires and pavement to taste. Recipe produces 1 Mini VTEC conversion and full satisfaction. Motor on!

I've had my tire guy mount maybe a dozen or so 10" Yokohama tires on 'Rosebud' over the years. Each time I remind him to "hand mount" them. I tell him that machine mounting the Yokos voids the warranty. Not true, but I thought that would add gravitas to my request. I remind him each time. Except this time.
I love these rims. They were unblemished and perfect and they're no longer available. So, after threatening to toss the wheels through his front window, we arrived at a compromise. I took the 2 damaged wheels to a wheel restoration shop in town who claim they can restore them to "as new." They said it'll take 4 weeks and cost $2000.00. That includes polishing the unmolested other 2 wheels to match. Tire guy is picking up the tab in addition to providing me with a rental car for a month. Stay tuned…
