Question:
Is this a complete bolt in kit, no chassis modification cutting welding etc? I read in part number MT530000 that there are an average of 100 hours of to install a kit is that correct ? It's for a 1991 Mini.
Answer:
100 hours is what is generally quoted even by the manufacturer of these kits. I'm sure there is some modifications that need to be done.

Question:
Is this kit for the right hand drive Mini Classic?
Answer:
Yes that would work in a LHD or a RHD. You do not have to change out the steering rack on the vtec kits and the pedal assembly in the car can stay stock.

Question:
I have finished the bodywork and the paint of my 1975 Mini Cooper and actually ready to start ordering some parts and an engine kit. I would like to buy a complete Vtec engine/transmission conversion package kit but do not want to extend the front of the car. Which kit would be the most powerful engine and the right one to put in my car? Also I will be needing a Rear Coilover Subframe kit with the disk brakes system and the suspension which would match the engine kits suspension.
Answer:
The best and most popular engine is the B series which will fit in the standard nose Mini.

Question:
Do you guarantee the motors? Is there any chance you can source a B18C? What's the lead time for the kit?
Answer:
The B18C is very hard to find as you probably know. We can ask and check.  If I remember, the last one we were able to source, it took a few months. All of the vtec motor kits we sell do have a new timing belt and water pumps installed and the transmissions are re bearing and sealed. Being a used motor, they do not have a warranty however.
If you want me to check for you, give us a call so I can get your info.  800-946-2642

Question:
My car is a 1976 Leyland Mini RHD. I would like to buy a complete VTEC kit for My car is it possible to retain the 10" wheels?
Answer:
That depends,
The big brake kit will not fit under the 10" wheels. So you could run a D-series engine and maintain the classic look, as many have done.

Question:
I have a 1994 mini cooper and I would like to swap it completely. Does this kit include a lot of fabrication or is it a bolt-on kit with the engine mounts and wiring harnesses?
Answer:
These kits include all the parts you need, but they do require fabrication. Modifications to the body, the exhaust, shift mechanism, fuel, and electrical system must all be made. We suggest a professional shop do the install - and estimate about 100 hours for a well-equipped shop to complete the job.

Question:
I was wondering do you sell a complete kit for the vtec conversion with the motor to install?
Answer:
We sell subframe kits with motors for most applications and engines.
These are about as complete as they can be, but still require sourcing or fabricating the other parts such as Fuel, exhaust, shifting, and electrical/engine management.

We have a kit like that on our site as part number MT532000 that you can check out.

Question:
Is it possible to fit a VTEC engine in a roundnose mini with 10" wheels without pushing out the track width? i.e. no need for wheel archers
Answer:

Yes, it is possible - depending

That is, I have seen more than a few minis with D-series engines in that fits while appearing nearly stock on the outside (in fact, there is one on our forum! The only thing you have to be aware of is any of our "ultimate" kits that have the big brake setup, as those will not fit under 10" wheels. But 7.5" cooper s brakes will do a good job stopping the car and fit.
Any of the larger engines, B or K series will require much more modification, and most likely won't be able to keep a stock appearance. (while it's possible with the B, it's a tight fit, and limiting 190+ HP to tiny brakes is not recommended)

Question:
How much HP does this engine produce? Is this conversion or K series option legal in California or what has to be done in order to be street legal. I have an 89 Mini.
Answer:
Honda's figure for the K20 engines is about 200hp
From my experience, this would not be legal for any vehicle subject to emissions in our state - but you'll want to check with your local authority for that.

Question:
What needs to be done to fit this is a RHD Clubman? Thanks. Can't find much detail about what exactly needs modifying for RHD vehicles
Answer:
The only thing really specific about the RHD vehicles is that the firewall needs some modification to allow the steering rack to be moved back a little and clear the B series transmission. Actually the Mighty Car Mods guys do a pretty good job explaining and showing this on their youtube video series about their JDM Sleeper Mini Build

Question:
We are importing a 1999 Rover Mini 40th Anniversary from Japan to Queensland, Australia. The standard 1275cc motor is just 46kw and is underpowered. We want to power it up by doing probably one of the following two things:- Option 1. Upgrade the existing motor with an upgraded cylinder head, camshaft, 5 speed gearbox and maybe a supercharger. OR Option 2. Do a VTEC conversion. Please advise.
Answer:

You'll never have more power in a Mini than a Vtec conversion. A-series is great for that classic "cafe racer" car, keeping it somewhat original and fun. But the Vtec is going to be much more powerful, fuel-efficient, and reliable.

We can do everything from just the subframe allowing you to keep your brakes and install your own engine and accessories or a full kit complete with engine, suspension, brakes, radiator, ecu, ect.

Question:
I’d like to purchase the Honda MTB engine kit for my classic 1965 Cooper, but can you please tell me if the brake kit included in this package will suit my 10-inch wheels or do I need to change them to a larger diameter? I’m hoping to keep the external appearance of the mini as original as possible.
Answer:

A few things with the MTB kit

- the brakes will require 13" wheels

- it requires modification to the inner fender liners to fit

the track width upfront will be wider by about 3 inches.

for an "original" look - you might consider a D-series kit, using the original brakes or converting to Cooper S Disc brakes that would allow you to run the 10" wheels.
