Question:
I ordered a Kent MD 256 cam from you and I now have it and am slowly getting the engine together. The engine 1098 has a DCOE 40 Weber carb and headers with 2-inch exhaust pipe. The heads have been 100% rebuilt with hardened seats and all new guides and valves. My question is would heat wrapping the headers and down pipe be a positive thing or negative. I asked that question online and got widely mixed reviews from yes it's a good idea to it will cause the vales to crack or set the engine on fire. Who is right?
Answer:
From my 45+ years of experience, I would say that without doubt, it is a bad idea.  The manifold will crack for sure.  If you want to make it better I would suggest you send it off to one of the numbers of companies that do ceramic coating- that is the right way to do it!
