Depends on the choice of engine. Not all Vtech swaps need extensions. I'm doing a D-series Vtech swap now, and it fits fine. Others have done B-series swaps and never had to extend either (tight but still fits). Not sure about the K-series. I think that's where you'd need to do more work to make it fit.
More power and reliability is the driving force behind why most Mini owners go this route. Not to mention power to weight ratio.

.
Simple recipe for Excitement:  Take 1 Classic Mini. Throw in 1590cc's of engine. Add 5 gears. A dash of 94 octane. A sprinkle of style inside and out. Toss in 1 MadMan and finally heat tires and pavement to taste. Recipe produces 1 Mini VTEC conversion and full satisfaction. Motor on!

Yeah, I did like that one, for sure.  I never liked the VTEC conversions because you had to extend the front end.  I recall that there was a way to do it without the extension, and this one looked like it was not extended.  Pretty darned nice.

Still love the Vauxhaul and BMW conversions, as well as Pimlico and Domino Minis.  So I guess I'm not a Mini purist!

His cars are awesome! I can see how the RWD or AWD might not be of interest to some, but the FWD ones you are absolutely crazy if you dislike them. There are absolutely 0 drawbacks to a honda swapped car if done right.

Gildred had a Super Cooper at the Snowmass 2019 Mini Meet. Looked extremely impressive.

Thanks for sharing that link, Dan!  It was nice to see an interviewer that knew what the heck she was talking about!  How refreshing!

Not sure what was going on with that "SUPER62", though.  Is that a 997cc, and that's why it's so slow?  I've driven 1000cc and 1275cc Minis, and they had plenty of power.

I'm not a fan of the rear engine, civic conversions, etc., but to each their own...  Still a well done interview, and I'm glad to see that this guy has such a strong interest in Minis!

I can't speak with any specific, direct knowledge about his product(s), but I can attest that he as a person is a stand-up guy and you can expect to get whatever he says he's going to deliver.

Cruising YouTube on a Sunday morning, I ran across this video. Never heard or read anything about Gildred, but the cars he produces are v. nice.
