Sticky float needle on HIF44

A few years back, there was a bunch of needle and jet sets that had too tight tolerances. The body of the needle would expand and stick in the jet, not at the tip but along the walls of the jet. It could stick open or closed. Mine would stick open, resulting in flooding for the next start. The needle is + shaped in cross section. There are eight edges (two on each tip of the +) and the fix was to round off the edges very slightly with a fine file. That left more tolerance for the needle to expand.

Don't bother messing with it, buy a new needle and seat.

If you are up to pulling the dashpot I would look closely at the needle to make sure is has not been off center and dragging on one side. This would make the needle and jet wear off center also.

What tip do you have on the needle? As I recall, there are three types; aluminum, viton and brass. Could be that the tip is worn and sticking to the seat. Give Joe Curto a call. He can help you.

Second time in a few months this has happened: go out to start my Minor after sitting for a few days, will not start. After fiddling, I find that the float needle is physically stuck to the seat: the float is moving up and down, but the needle isn't dropping away. No contaminants visible anywhere, and simply removing and replacing the float needle is enough to get things going again. Any hints?
