The early cars had larger holes with the clips you have shown, not the rivitted snap on buttons. It takes time and patience to install them but worth it in the end. I'v found it works best to install the Stainless trim with the windows and felt out. Easier to see what you're doing from the backside. Anyway, I put the top clips in (all facing the same direction) and drop them into the holes and slide into place. Of course, you also have to have the vertical ones in place but they should be facing down. After the top is secure, work the sides in one clip at a time starting at the top and work your way down. There's enough flex in the Stainless trim to do this. Good luck.

Yes your clips look correct, but hard to judge the size exactly. These are some repaired original clips I needed to have a full set.

The 3m trim/emblem tape works well also, that is what they use on those plastic aftermarket window/wind guard things and they are a bear to remove after a while on the vehicle.

I just did the trim about a month ago and now I don't remember. The trim goes on by hooking the outside of the window first and then PUSHING down quickly on the inside of the window. (Or vise versa it may be inside first then push on the outside). They will go on and it takes about 3 minutes a side to put the trim on so once you figure it out it's easy. I think my door held 12 rivets but buy a few extra; I broke about 5.

Thank you for the replies. Yes, holes are too big to hold the back of the rivets. I may drill new holes but I'm hesitant as I've heard, as was mentioned, it can be a struggle to get the trim over the rivets.
Onetim, you said "I installed the early original strips and clips for the large holes", did you use the Bresco clips? The "chrome" strip is aftermarket and I haven't purchased the clips yet. I was hoping to get some input on the Bresco clips before I purchased them. Thanks again.

Some one messed up by drilling large holes where smaller ones were needed. There is a button that snaps into the back side of the trim held in by a pop rivet. I would drill a 1/8 hole next to the larger hole. Put some electrical or gorilla tape over the large holes. Trim will cover up. That trim piece can be a bear to put in place. You don't want to flatten or dent the trim. Take your Time.

Are your stainless strips original or aftermarket? Will the new clips snap into the chrome strip, and allow it to sit flat other than the hook portion? and will the hook part hold the strip tight to the door frame? if so you should be good with the clips you purchased, try it with just one clip. If you have aftermarket stainless strips there is a rivet kit for them. If you go with 3M emblem tape it does not need much contact area to hold, I would use the wider tape and trim it to the correct size with an exacto knife before fitting it to the car just where you want it. Use a degreaser on the paint and trim first. I installed the early original strips and clips for the large holes on my mini, the strip is hooked over the clips on the top/outside and snaps on toward the glass side.
