Ha! I agree. Driving RHD in the US for the first time is a little dicey. I’d be much more comfortable with LHD. On the other hand, I’d be more comfortable in a Honda Accord, but that’s not why I drive a Mini.

Mine is one of the now few original mini's sold by the manufacturer in the USA, they were Left hand drive. Right hand drive is great fun as a passenger with a loose steering wheel but that's about it for me.  

Agreed, I would have kept it as RHD if it was sold that way, but it had already been converted here in the states before I got it...

When I was looking for a Mini, my only requirement was that it was rust free and right hand drive. IMO, RHD is part of the quirky charm of these little cars. It’s like someone buying a vintage 911 and converting it to front wheel drive. Who would do that?

My 87 will be converted to electric, donating the lump and many other components.

OK, so how about an MKII Japanese spec modified to LHD from RHD? It came with A/C, and round mirrors near the headlights up front.

And Japan spec cars are RHD.

FYI..... an 87 isn't a MkIII.

1. Fairly easy, maybe. I just did a steering rack swap on my car it can be done. If you’re looking for some new steering control arms let me know I’ve still got a pair left that I didn’t use from mini mania sell them at half the price

Engine could care less. Should be a fairly easy straight swap.

Can a 1275 engine from an 87 LHD (MKIII from Japan) be transplanted into a 76 RHD Mini 1000?
