Reminds me of this...

Ahhh, good times.

Some day I'm going to dig out all of those digital video cassettes and edit them properly. The ones on there were slap-dash edits on a laptop from the front seat and uploaded while stealing wifi from libraries and unsecured hotels along the route. Also realizing it may help to put a numerical order to the few that actually are already up there.

Funny story, I recently had a classic dropped off at my shop. Owner was driving from Fla. to
Norfolk Va. The car developed a 1 qt every 45 min oil leak and lost it's brakes. He rented a U Haul
with trailer and brought it on in. After we coated everything with Simple Green and power washed,
surprise it would not start. We pushed it into my shop and he removed dizzy cap wiped it out and
sprayed WD40 and replaced it. Still no start and I ask what is that short black pin on the floor under
where you were working? That can happen when messing with dizzy with grille in place. Steve (CTR)

I have a part number and source for an outstanding distributor cap.  I'll have to go out to the garage to find it.  Standby.  Google DDB199B.  Excellent product endorsed by......me.

New cap, Rich! That is the inanimate graphite rod (Homer Simpson reference) that provides an electrical connection from the center of the rotating rotor (hence the name) and the high tension lead from the coil.

Ok... so, I have a 45D type distributor (Accuspark electronic).  On the inside of the cap there is a center pin (looks like plastic) that has a spring behind it.  In diagnosing poor running i noticed that that spring had broken and the pin was laying inside the cap.

What is that pin for?  if it was in place with a broken spring, could it have been intermittent?  Can I replace that spring with anything or do I need a new cap.

Thanks all!

Rich
