OK, bump stops are on top and round. Droop stops go under the arm and somewhat tear drop shape.
Screw the threaded rod into the cone shaped part of Hi Lo until the upper arm is just touching the droop
stop and go from there. Steve (CTR)

I have run into a problem with some Hi Los, the ones with the jam nuts. I remove the nut and shorten
the internally threaded part 1/2 inch and make sure the threaded rod won't bottom in the spring plate
threaded to compress the spring for installation. I may be way off base. Happy 4th. Steve (CTR)

I think the main problem is people thinking they're cleverer than the genius who designed the suspension in the first place....
If you want steel springs get a Ford.. Otherwise you're chasing compromises that can only end in a suboptimal outcome...

... and shock absorbers (aka dampers) do not support any of the car weight. Their purpose is to control the action of the springs - slow the compression/expansion rate of the spring when the wheel hits a bump or pothole and then the rebound of the spring, essentially to take the bounciness out of the springs.

You're absolutely right about adjusting the ride height up, you probably need to go higher. A steel coil spring is not like a rubber cone. A spring needs to compress and rebound to work effectively. The larger rebound buffer is there to hold the metal spring in place when you jack up the car or at full droop.

Need advice on new spring coils for front. I replaced the old rubber cones with new spring coils. I read that you need the higher bump stops or rebound buffers. I installed the new bump stops and the control arm looks like it is squashing them down and sideways I have hi-lo and I adjusted the hi-lo up about 1/2 inch only? Do I need new shocks? what that help? I am afraid if I drive the moke, the bump stops will break apart.
