Another interesting possibility is when using a trailer, or towing using a tow bar with a positive ground car, it will cause a short to the negative ground tow vehicle, if you don't disconnect the battery.

You'll find several descriptions online but they all boil down to the following.

NEVER let the cars touch each other.
Ideally...
the Red/Orange jumper cable lead will go from the + terminal on the dead battery to the + terminal on the good battery.
the Black jumper lead will go from the - terminal on the dead battery to the chassis of the car with the good battery.

You don't let the cars touch each other and the last connection needs to be made AWAY from either battery.

It is also safer giving or getting a jump start if both cars are of the same polarity.  If a modern car is giving or getting the jump start that means it is easier and safer if your car is negative ground.  Remember that most people trying to help you will never have seen or heard of a car with positive ground.

How does one jump start a positive ground car using a negative ground car?  The MG1100 is positive ground, so I guess that's information that I should have.

I have a 60 Morris Minor Traveller.  I want to know what is involved in converting it to negative ground.  Anyone know how to do this?
Thanks,
Darrell
