It is stuck in the upright position and the latch does nothing, doesn't even seem to be connected to anything. Since it's 17 years old I'm assuming that someone has had this happen before and has an easy fix. Previous owner obviously tried to pop off the plastic around the latch as it's loose but that can't be how you get to it to fix it. Do I need to take the upholstery off completely? Is there another option to getting to the inside of the latch without tearing it apart? Thanks, T
You might try pulling of the cover on the backside of the rear seat, there are 4 clips - 2 across the top and 2 across the bottom. It should come off with a gentle tug and I am hoping you will be able to access the latch mechanism...

Let us know how this works out.
