I just dropped by a Spitfire forum and looked under intakes. They are talking about how hard finding a twin
HS 4 intake for a 1500 is. For years I kept a 1500 Midget and a earlier Sprite to move away from rubber bumpers.
I made several attemps to buy one and even paid shipping on one I never received. Due to space I gave both
the Sprite side curtian and the Midget away. Steve (CTR)

All the US market 1500 Spitfire's I have seen came with a 1.5" Stromberg pos carb from 75 on and they used it so they could pass emissions on MG's and Triumph's.
The UK market afaik stuck with the twin HS2's on the 1500 Spitfire and HS4's on the 1800 MGB's.

Am I confused or did the 1400 Spitfire come with twin HS4s in some markets? Steve (CTR)

Have a look at the needles for an MG Midget - I think they ran HS2s rather than HS4s but would be a good start.
We've got number 5 needles in the HS4s on Tigger, but he's a bit non-standard. Again, a good starting point.
Failing that, have a look in Vizards Bible for recommended start needles.

I found very little value in "recommended" needles... they're a reasonable starting point. A few hours on the dyno was well worth it... After 50 years its difficult to imagine a "standard" engine...
There's no reason HS4s won't work well with an "ordinary" S engine..
You'll be amazed at the difference between an OK "generic" setup and that which a knowledgeable person can achieve...
Cheers, Ian

I don’t know if you can lean them out enough, but for $70 new $60 used you could buy a single HS4 manifold from our host and sure of a good tune in the end.

Hey guys anyone running twin HS4s on a standard not hot cam'ed 1275? What needles you went for? I know its too much of a set up already but trying to get a customers Mini back on the road that came to me from another shop. Car had modified needles and jets running way too rich.
thanks in advance
