A 2003 R53 Cooper S should be very inexpensive to purchase. The engine and transmission are 'usually' fairly reliable.

Some parts are getting harder to find but most are still available.

A fun car for sure, but see if you can confirm it's service history and check it's condition in person... I would recommend a pre-purchase inspection by a shop familiar with MINIs..

generally speaking, the 05-06 (and up to 08 in convertibles only) Cooper S is supposedly better. upgraded supercharger and different gear ratios.

That said, they ('02-'06) are all pretty good for 150K miles and I've seen a whole bunch at nearly 200K miles.

I would have two questions. Price and miles.

The description from the private seller goes as follows: “2003 Mini Cooper S. Great daily runner and an absolute blast to drive - like driving a go-kart. Increased performance with larger, less-restrictive exhaust, cold air intake. 15% smaller supercharger pulley allows faster spin-up and more power with classic supercharger 'whine'. 6-speed manual, power windows with one-touch up/down, heated seats, great stereo with Bluetooth connectivity, power mirrors, power moonroof, fold flat rear seats give surprisingly big cargo capacity. Trip odometer, clock, auto-dim mirror.” The mods listed clearly show that this owner knew what they were doing and had a blast with it too. What do you all think?
