I finally got around to testing this flasher (this is the $5 flasher module from SuperBrightLEDs) with the trailer hooked up to the car. I like it so much I ordered another one for the third brake light on the car. Here's a video of how it looks in action.

This version sounds best to me, I do this manually any time I get stopped Or suddenly slowed in an unusual spot to wake up the person behind me.

I don't know the legalities of a flashing rear brake light but as motorcycles have them for front and rear lights I guess they are legal.
I did follow a Mini on a driving event a few years ago and his LED brake lights were rigged to flash constantly when braking, it did get my attention but got to be annoying also.

I was expecting to be able to adjust the switch. Didn't see any, so applied my own solution. I'm not going back in that contortion position to be proved wrong or not. The  brake light is coming on at the slightest touch of my foot. Thanks for the comment though.

The factory setup for the brake light switch is adjustable to allow the brake lights to come on at the merest hint of a foot on the pedal - if you've been having to press quite hard for them to light up then it's been set wrong or worked loose over time.  The lights coming on as you cover the pedal without actually applying any line pressure is actually correct.

You shouldn't have to jury-rig anything to get the lights to come on when resting a foot on the pedal...

The bracket the switch is mounted on slides back and forth to achieve the correct change point.

Thanks, Willie B. I've been looking for one like that.
I got the larger 7.5 inch version that doesn't have the flashing feature, but I ordered one of the brake flasher modules from SuperBrightLEDs and I'll add that feature. Here's how it looks on my 'Alf Elf trailer.

How much was this Willie_B
https://www.customdynamics.com/dual-intensity-led-light-bar-with-flashing-brake-alert

I've seen a few new cars with the 3 flash then steady break light.  I'm sure it's factory....can't recall the make of cars

I have been using this one for several years. I have it wired so that it is on low when the headlights are on but it flashes bright then steady on when brakes on.

They also have one that just flashes constant when the brakes are on.

I have seen a few commercial vehicles (larger trucks) that have a winking brake light arrangement - when the brakes are applied, the lights flicker 2-3-times before going full on red. Certainly helps get one's attention.

I'm looking on amazon and I see that it is a module that controls the flashing to a light. That's good because it allows me a light of my choice.

I was going to ask if you had added a 3rd brake light yet.  It sounds like you are waiting until you find a flashing type.

I have not pursued the flashing type but I added a 3rd brake light mounted at the top of my car's rear glass.  Hopefully that makes my car more visible to others at a stop.

Hi, I was noticing in my rear view mirror cars approaching me very fast when I would be stopped trying to make a left turn on two lane roads. I made a modification to the plastic brake switch.. I wanted the brake lights to come on with the very slightest touch of the brake pedal. Now I can push the pedal down about 1/8 of an inch and the brake light switches on. I have a light touch on the brake pedal, but the way the factory settings are is that you need to have the brake pedal fully depressed for the brake lights to be on. It's not the way I drive.

How to modify. I removed the brake light switch. I put three plastic washers that fully goes to the back. They are a hair over 1/16". Then put the switch back on the mount. Like I said before. It takes 1/8 of an inch for the light to go on. I feel this is much safer. I still hope that distracted drivers see me before it's too late.

If any on knows of the motorcycle brake light that blinks before a full red. I would like to try to make a third rear light out of it.  Jim
