I have standard 1098 pistons - went to +100 thou. Russell Engineering pistons, RE 266s Cam & lifters etc. etc.  FREE to a good home...just postage.

Have your crank checked for cracks, straight and balance all the rotating parts...more important in a long stroke engine.

Contact Boot 2 Bonnet.  I am not sure if he still has them but I sold him a complete disassembled 1098 with good pistons and also a set of new pistons about a year ago.

Forgot to photograph over the weekend, will try and remember tonight.

Not sure you can lop the required .150" off a 998 piston to get it into a 1098 application though, the crowns just aren't that thick.

Been a long day Spank so I had to read that a few times lol!

Interesting idea. The head is already cut and modified so not sure how much compression I'd be looking at with your method... but.. lots.. I should probably measure the head and see what I actually have. I traded a stock head for it to a guy that had a decked 998 with flat tops already. He seemed to think there was over .100 off, but i'm dubious. I didn't think you could take more than .060...The valves do look bigger though. You never know what madness I could be looking at.

do some 998 pistons and have the pop-up cut flush with the block? There's lots of meat on factory pistons and you'll just be taking material away from the outer 1/4 anyway.

I took like .040 off the top of some 1275 pistons when I stroked a 1275 crank. Just used a vibrating palm sander and a spring loaded punch to help me take an even amount off all the way around. Pistons have outlasted 3 cranks and more than 160 track hours

The 998 piston, in theory, would pop up 150 thou more than 1098. But heck, that's a great compression boost and an uncut 12G295 should be able to take it. 1098 pistons are also often shallow dish, which the 998 would become if you take a tenth of an inch off the top.

The crappy thing about most factory 1098 pistons is they are 5 ring, so there's 1 ring below the piston pin. Lots of drag.

It's something I've often thought of trying myself. I'll get to it one day.

could not help with 1100 stuff. Can I post here that I need a good hidden hinge roll up door?
Rust is current issue cant skin this. Can be but does not need to be loaded. Lighter ships cheaper.
Let me know what you have. Steve (CTR)

Oh yeah left hand door will work best.

Let me know what you'd like for the +.020! +.060 may be a little bigger than I'd like to go i think ... however... 1150cc has a nice ring to it... Maybe I can go bigger :) my email: [email protected] . Cheers! B

You could easily get $100+ for just the 1098 crank alone.

I have an old thin flange 1098 that I've had for years. The pistons and rods have been removed from the block. The 12G82 crank and 2 ring cam are still in the block with timing chain. pistons are fine but need rings. I don't want to break it up because then I have everything for a 1098 except pistons. If you decide you want everything I would let it go for $100.

So I had some years ago, but moves and such has seen them disappear. Does anyone have some decent used 1098 pistons? I am hoping to make a very snarky 1100 out of an old 998 block. (I already have the 1098 crank and a very nicely modded 12g295 head....)

Thanks! Low budget, so ... you know... Prefer in North America.
