What year did they get a bit odd for the CA market cars brake master.... was it 79/80. Had metric threads.

Mine is (allegedly) a 78 Canadian car and, like Croc7’s, it’s a front/rear split system.

Being a Canadian car, it might have had a GMC159 master cylinder, front/rear split (mine did). The MC is easily identified by the large (about 3 1/2" diameter) cap. If you have that MC, rebuild kits are still available although doing it can be a little fussy. The brake section of the Haynes manual has pics and diagrams.

It should have a tandem master cylinder for a split system either diagonal or front to back. I'm not sure how you would determine which it is by looking at the master cylinder. If you have the solid brake lines at hand you might be able to figure it out.

My heart just skipped a beat. I thought for a minute that was my old car "Barney" that I sold probably 11-12 yrs ago. A yellow 78 Canadian Car.
(I never had the brakes apart on it however)
You're not from Cape Breton are you?
I think a 78 CDN car would've had drums on the rear and possibly front as well. 10" wheels. Others will chime in too and correct me. I never drove it.
My 87 Welsh car is much different.
Good Luck my CDN neighbour.

~ 30 minutes in a Mini is more therapeutic than 3 sessions @ the shrink. ~

Hello everyone, I have been slowly working on my 78 Mini and although I have not spent tons of time on the body we have started to do the rebuild of the internals. Does anyone know what type of break system it had. More specifically the hoses and piping. When I bought it the previous person doing the restore had taken it completely apart and I never saw it. Now I have been given the task to piece it together. So any help on which break down I should be following would be appreciated.
Thanks
