Thanks for the feedback. I found the the end cap of the stalk easily pops off, revealing two contacts on the stalk and a shorting ring in the cap. Earlier I had used a modified paper clip to jump +V to the washer wire at the harness connector at the column and the washer ran and functioned normally. With the stalk now open, there is continuity from one of the contacts to the harness connector, but not the other. The "down stream" side is fine, just no +V to the washer switch contacts from the harness connector. The wipers work normally, so there is +V on those portions of the switch, just not the washer portion. Could this switch assembly be fixed? Probably. Will we find out? Probably not. A replacement switch assembly is on it's way!

With Cheers,

Unless you have some skills at fixing cheaply made electronics with plastic housings that aren't really made for servicing (which if you were that person, you wouldn't be asking the question) you're best bet is likely going to be to replace the entire switch/stalk, but you might as well try to take it apart first, what have you got to lose? Then go ahead and order the new one. Shop around, they're available.

Greetings, Recently the washer switch stoped functioning on my '96 SPi. The fuse is good and the wipers work, so there is power. Jumping power at the connector to the washer circuit causes the washer to work. I'm presuming it's in the switch itself. How is this opened up for cleaning/service?
