Did anyone else get the Mini Mania monthly flyer mailed to them.  Small book folded in half 8.5 by 11?  Am I dating myself?

I have received a couple of text from people about this thread. Kind of nice to know we are still here. Bought my first 68 was auto crossing by 69. I sold everything mini but for one car in 79 to buy my home. By 2000 I was once again over stocked on mini stuff. Again I sold everything but one car. Here I find myself at 2019 and college is at the top of my list. The Moke and CTR/Alex stay everything else I have is open for sale. I have projects collection of parts engines, trannys, cranks a pile of S rods in sets as removed NOS tranny parts racing gear sets Dog standing and rolling start. Posi  gear sets as well as a large selection of CWPs.  IF you are looking for it I may have it. I'm not giving anything away, only want a fair price for both buyer and seller. Text me at 757 eight eight 0 92 eight 3 for pics and price. Steve (CTR)

Not sure how many Weber carbs, manifolds, linkage sets I have. Also a large collection of Weber calibration two to four of everything to tune a 45 DCOE. Two 48 IDA intakes one complete with carb calibration for race 1275 and K&N air cleaner.

Maybe a couple hundred SUs and manifolds.

I’ve had my mini since 1978. I’ve been on the board since 1997 or eight, since dot man was who he was.

Been around for about 20 years.. been through a bunch of different Minis, including a few sedans,  a Moke, GTM Coupe, 2 VTEC conversions, and working on a Van now.  Learned a lot from a lot of people over the years.. not spending much time on the board these days.. more time in the shop! and working on MMW2020..

No, never owned or desired a TR3. Had a TR6 in 75 and a couple of Spitfires along the way but never a TR3. FWIW, I have always thought those cars were ugly and weird. Now, a nice TR4 or TR250 were in my price range (and I could fit in it) I'd love that!

My avatar shows the first Mini I bought for 65 cents when Matchbox brought out the first models with "Superfast Wheels". First one I saw for sale was when I was in high school about 1974. It was sitting next to a railroad siding on Saratoga Sunnyvale Road (aka old CA Hwy9) and already had rusted through rockers (!) and that was here in the SF Bay Area, California. I was driving my first car at the time, a '57 MGA roadster. The photo is me with the first full size Mini I bought in I think 1995 or maybe 96. That was a rusty very early 1960 shell with lots of parts. It WAS great until I realized that the front end sheet metal wasn't attached when I was dragging it home! I guess the previous owner was going to build a steel flip front. Bought another Canadian Mini from a long time member of this forum, Dr. Dave. It was a rusty rocket. Then sold the two cars off to complete my '56 F100 hot rod pickup and bought another Mk3 from Miniguy in 2002. Sold the '56 in 2009 to do a twinky convert on the Mk3 and I still have that Mini today. Everybody's profile from the early years here is 1999 after the Great Website Revisionist Movement that got rid of all our original info. Ho Hum. I can't even remember just when I found this forum it's been so long now. I used to skip out of the plant at lunch time and go buy parts from our host Don in Milpitas, CA.

Hugh, didn't the Triumph bug also bite you?  I thought our first email correspondence may have been about the belt pulleys for a TR3.  However, I am getting old and my memory isn't what it used to be.

Not sure how long I've been on here, but it's been over 10 yrs. Saw my first Mini in 1973 when a fellow classmate and friend of mine (Hotel Calif) showed up at school with his first Mini. He took autobody in HS and seemed to have several Minis in and out of the shop during our HS years. I wanted one! Mom said they couldn't be safe and nixed the idea. 1975 I joined the USAF and in 76 they blessed me with an assignment to England. Minis everywhere and they were cheap. I bought my first one, I think was a 65 but not sure. Someone had put a fiberglass Clubman nose on it and it was my everyday driver. About a month prior to leaving England in 78 I crashed it into the back of a big truck...damn drum brakes! Returned to the States and bought my first US LHD Mini in 79. It was in pieces but it was cheap. Hotel Calif/David helped me put it back together, personalize it, and it was loved for a few years. In 83 I saw a bone stock 850 and fell in love with what now is an obsession--originality! Sold that Mini and bought 2 barn find 850's. Both were too far from original to see any success, so in 84 I got my 62 997 Cooper. I restored it in 88/89 and it has been with me ever since, including my next tour to England from 90 - 94. Lost count of how many Minis I have owned, but had 13 at one time, and imported 47 over the years. Proud of being able to ship 8 in a container when everyone said it couldn't be done. Did it twice, but wouldn't do it again!

I had my Austin America for 5-6 years, and now that you mention it, I don't recall having any issues with mine, either. My neighbor had a nice MG1100 at about the same time. I liked his dash and instruments more than my America. But other than that, they were very similar cars.

18+ years on here for me.  Bought my Mini PUP in October 2001 after looking at the for sale ads on here for a while.  I've done a fair bit of work on it, but nothing really major so far.  Upgraded from front drums to disks, replaced the wiring harness, sorted out a bad trans input shaft bearing, and a bunch of cosmetic stuff.  Still enjoying the great driving.  The PUP shares garage space with my latest project, an MGB GT and I also have an MGA I restored in the late 90s.  Of the 3 cars, the Mini is most fun to drive, the MGA is most comfortable for long distance cruising and the MGB GT is, well... a work in progress.

My introduction to the Mini was by way of MG, sort of.  My best friend when we were teenagers had an MG 1100.  That was just before I had my drivers license, so I never got to drive it, but riding in it was a blast.  We were amazed at the hydrolastic suspension. When I learned that the Mini had the same suspension and drive train, I put it on my list to own one day, especially after trips to England through the late 70s and 80s when Minis were plentiful in everyday traffic.  Alas the PUP is a rubber cone suspension, but still huge fun.

I've enjoyed lurking here, and adding content when I had something to say.  Kudos to all the technical gurus here, especially to dklawson, who always has sound technical advice to offer those seeking help.

Been on for many years. No way to tell because of the "start over" done once.
Had no idea what a Mini was until about 1966. Bought my first one in 1968. An 850 with a 1098 engine.
It would take a while for me to come up with how many I've owned over the years, but I had 23 all at once at one time.
Sold four recently. An Angus Firefly, Heinz 57, Elf Mk I (with about 34,000 miles on it), and Elf Mk II with about 14,000 miles.
Down to seven now with two more up for sale. That will leave me with the Moke I bought in 1970, a Wolseley 1000, a South African Mk3 (one of only two Mk3 type Minis -- the others were Mk III), a South African Estate and my daily driver (not having anything but Minis) a 1975 Clubman Estate.

Drove a mini in New Zealand in 1979 for about 3 weeks all over the north and south islands, Came back to the USA and immediately went looking for one, but,,,  life, kids, etc. got in the way, bought my mini from Mark Nolan of Bank Garage in 2002, 85,000 miles later I still drive it all the time, been to ALL CMU events, driven to 4 of them from Miami and towed the rest.  Mini goes to the Keys often and to work on Fridays. Made a lot of friends along the way.

I wanted to buy your 63/64 after that little storm. I have bought a 63 and a 65 but still no 64. I'd love a 64.

some can never come back. Say a silent prayer for the next 10 years. Steve (CTR)

I've been here more than 10 years.   For sure over 20!.

I got my first mini in 1989 or so.   It was a Canadian Mini 1000 with the Canadian bumpers.   I think it was a 1975 if I remember correctly.   I loved that car!   I drove it for several years as my daily driver.    I then picked up a 1963 or 64 or so Austin Cooper (non S).   I ended up selling this car to Travis 10 Incher for a VTEC conversion.   Some years later I bought a 1989 Mini Racing Green.   It was RHD and another great car.    It really bothered me that it was a re-vin.  It was titled as a 1966 Morris Cooper S.   So I sold it.

Now I have a 1987 Mini that started it's life as a model called a Mini Advantage.   It was a tennis themed Mini 1000.   I have it ripped apart mostly and am doing some welding and of course replacing everything else too.   I know it is hard to say, but this one will probably be my last Mini.  Unless a real juicy van comes my way.    I am not getting any younger.

So what happened to everyone?   I am a long time lurker and I remember the heyday when there was lots of posts and active members.   Are they on another forum?   Did they learn their lesson and got out of Mini's?

Michael

Saw my 1st Mini in 1967 on a lot in Studio City, CA that catered to the Hollywood crowd called "Cars of the Stars." It was a Cooper S on consignment from the drummer for the "Grass Roots." Dad wouldn't let me buy it, so I bought what I thought was the next best thing, a new '69 Austin America. I put rally lights on it, a megaphone exhaust tip and an aftermarket steering wheel and pretended it was a Mini. It wasn't. Bought 'Rosebud' 12 years ago. She's a keeper.

Bought my first Mini from Miguel Cody in Bettendorf, IA through an ad here back around 2000 or so - a 1960 850 deluxe that was Speedwell blue. It's changed hands a few times since I had it and just found it again. Apparently it's orange now and being prepped for vintage rally racing in Oregon. I've had several minis since - all in various states of repair / disrepair, but the favorite one that I should have NEVER sold was a red 1960 with a 1380 that had been previously owned by another member here - "towjoe" (Joe Schott). LOVED that car. Joe did a REALLY nice job with that one prior to my acquiring it. I'd love to have that one back in the condition I bought it. Foolishly sold that one about 10 years ago to a guy from the Kansas City area.

I currently have a '69 Aussi Mini with a D-Series Honda conversion that is an ongoing love-hate project. Some days it runs and drives gloriously. Some days I want to light it on fire and push it down a large hill.

This site and message board have been a wealth of knowledge and help over the years. Thanks to everyone that has offered both over my tenure here!
