the P3490 can mean a few things, but if their diagnosis is that that it requires the replacement of the thermostat housing - then that price makes sense. It's pretty difficult to get to, requiring a lot of hose connections to be replaced. The thermostat housings are complete with sensors and thermostat, so they can be expensive parts as well.

Feel free to post any more questions, there are helpful people willing to answer questions about the new MINIs (Ken is a great source)

2014 R60 Mini Countryman S-ALL4.  Approx. 83k miles on it.  Check engine light came on.  Took it to the local Euroshop that has a good reputation.  They pulled a code 3490 off it.  They're telling me that it needs a new thermostat housing.  While they're in there they might as well replace the thermostat, makes sense I suppose.  Gonna charge me about $700.  Anyone else ever have this issue??
Thanks!!
