If you are servicing the timing chain, you should replace the chain, guides, and the tensioner - we recommend MINI factory parts.

Replace the timing chain sprockets if they show signs of wear.

If your MINI has high mileage and the coolant tube and thermostat housing as never been changed, best to replace them while your engine is already partially dis-assembled. This is especially true if there are any signs of coolant leak or seepage.

If you want to avoid any issues with fitment, then the MINI factory parts are always guaranteed to fit (as long as you get the correct parts). They will also provide the same quality as the parts used when the car was new.

If you want to save $$, go with the aftermarket parts. You increase the risk of fitment issues and you don't know the quality unless you get the parts from the same manufacturer as the MINI supplier.

As for which parts to get, only a mechanic inspecting the dis-assembled engine can tell you what exactly you might need.....
