Have the spacers but fan is hits the radiator, the aluminum radiator is 1" thicker. I think the canister is my best choice. The main seal is leaking I'm pretty sure so I can replace that when I put the cover back on. Thanks for all your help

IN Later model cars. the electric fan is in place in the fender pulling air thru the Radiator.. this is a Backup to the normal belt driven fan.. in these applicaitions they come on via a temp switch in the rad looking for ~210 degrees or higher.. In my SPI = it Really would only come on during hot days and in traffic. Once moving, would cool enough and shut off no problems.
Do your research Most people don't have much luck with JUST a Electric fan , I have yet to hear of a successful electric fan in place of the pulley fan pushing air thru the rad and out the fender.. (mabye possible with racing, but then you're moving enough air regardless)
Also = Still have to drive the alternator + Water pump = Keep the fan.
Can you add a spacer to the WP pulley / Fan = add that 1/8th clearance towards the rad to help clear the can.
Flattening the canister is very common... Just make sure its welded tightly = as oil leaks will show thru a leaky welded canister

Electric fans usually mount in the wheel well.

It appears the breather canister on timing cover is in the way for fan clearance. Once i put the fan on correctly & started the motor the fan hit & broke up. Not damage other than the fan. I was informed that crushing the canister could be done to get clearance. My question. If i go to an electric fan which mounts to the radiator how does the radiator mount since the current cowl mounts to the frame. Thanks For all your ideas, they are helping
