To close this out- The DMV district person wandered by the house today (how is that for service). Took 5 minutes to verify VIN. Only issue is that it had a 'S' (for super deluxe) hanging out between the first part of the VIN ( M-A2S4) and the Actual build # (181647-M). But since every one else had ignored it (Seller, CBP, Shipper) she decided she could too. Then a trip to the tax collector with VIN Verification and Bond in hand and in an hour (half hour wait/half hour of paperwork) I had a title, registration, and a plate. Last car I buy from overseas...... And David Ellison still owes me the local delivery fee he was supposed pay but which I fronted to move things along. Live and learn.....

Kim b and gunslinger.. David Ellison has more excuses than a shoplifter of WHY he can produce the Uk title.. total BS. I do NOT see how you got through CBP Customs without a title.. you were SOOOOOO lucky.. so hot here my two oldest skunks.. Otis and Josephine like to crawl in the Fridge to SLEEP..( they lay on their back and open the door.. then crawl in and shut it back.. same here my AC can NOT keep up.. later bc

I am glad you are making some headway. I understand about the heat thing. It is so hot here in SC, that my AC in the house can't keep up. Good Luck!

Still jumping through hoops. Ellison came through with a new bill of sale from UK modified as requested by FL (added color and explanation as to why just a bill of sale). Still told to get bond. First bond was filled out wrong (bonding company issue). New bond should be here Weds. Then I still need the VIN check which is dependent on the person designated in the District Office coming to town. All Out of Country VIN Checks are done (at least in this district) by someone out of Palmetto. They seem to wander to this area every couple of weeks (no set schedule). So the saga continues but there seems to be light at the end of tunnel- hopefully it isn't an oncoming train. Thankfully it remains too hot and rainy here in Southwest FL to even think about driving it anyway

Has there been an update to this person's title issues? I'm assuming that no news is good news.

I am sorry to say that my Mini was brokered through Ellison. I found my Mini through a friend of a friend type situation. If I had known of all the problems surrounding Ellison, I may have rethought my decision. For now, I have my Mini, she is registered and insured, and she is so much fun to drive.
My Mini is an original left hand drive and was registered in the Netherlands. My Mini made it through customs without a hitch. It actually arrived at the Port of Charleston on a Friday evening and I was notified the following Monday around 8:30 AM that it has cleared customs and was ready to be picked up. In addition to all my paperwork relating to customs and importing, I also had a bill of sale, a paper title, and a plastic credit card looking title / registration with a smart chip.

Good afternoon everyone. Finally had a moment to catch up on some of the posts and saw my name in this post. First off, I totally understand the difficulties in dealing with the DMV. I did not have anything resembling a log book when my mini arrived. I did have the bill of sale and the title. After a couple trips to the DMV, I was able to get everything taken care of. Then I started reading this post. It made me curious and I started digging through my DMV checking on everything. My Mini arrived as scheduled and cleared customs. After the third or forth trip to DMV, I was able to pay my sales tax, applied for my title, received my tag, and have insurance. Did a little research and found, my tag is valid, I have insurance, and the little car is working fine. The only thing I was able to learn is the title is on hold. The DMV site says the title is on hold due to "vin failed editing". I have a former DMV employee that works in the courthouse with me and she said that was more than likely due to the fact that European vins have less numbers that American vins. She also pointed out that my paperwork from the DMV is listing my "purchase date as" 6-7-1990. That appears to be a scrivener's error as my purchase date was 6-7-2019. I am not sure why no one caught that error. It appears that I have to actually make a trip to the DMV to ask my questions. I am not looking forward to that because, for one, the DMV is one of my most favorite places to go, and two, I am working court for the next two weeks and not sure when I will have time to make that trip to stand in line. I'll keep y'all informed.

The heritage cert is of course BS; it maybe useful in establishing build date if there are age issues (car must be at least xx years old) but does nothing to establish ownership and in this case the only # that matches is VIN. There is no engine # and the body # doesn't match Heritage Cert. Like I said I am fine with that; knew it was a mongrel going in; the car itself is appropriate for my wants and needs etc. BUT getting it titled does matter.
Meanwhile in going back and forth with FL they now think they can use TL-07 (don't ask) for antique cars. You can use a bill of sale but it must state the color of the car (having it in the Heritage Cert isn't good enough) and I must sign it as the buyer. They also want the Seller to put something in the Bill of Sale about why there is no registration/V5C. Something like No registration is available as the car has been in long term storage. David has been responsive and says he modify bill of sale and send it over. Doesn't sound like I will need a bond on this route but rather just swear that I will defend the title. We'll see where this all goes........

ok.. guys . I called David Ellison. this morning.. to sort this.. he is a real PRICK.. said he did NOT need a V5 to sell this mini.. he only needed a BMHT certificate .. which is total BS.. as Malsal and Whee have stated.. I told David. that the buyer wants a FULL REFUND.. or I will refer KimB to my friend at DLVA enforcement In Swansea UK.. Ellison does NOT sort that ASAP.. fyi.. Ellison is real smooth talker.. just like ML.. . later bc
