Ok folks thanks for all the fuel tank responses . Pics from base of LH tank attached .
The car is LHD exported to France new in 1965 to Roubaix . The car was shipped at some time pre 1973 to the USA. I tracked the car to Gary Wolf Lawyer now 80 years old who raced it under SCCA regulations ( I have 3 sets of his race results from SCCA archives ). I have documentation showing tech info about an engine rebuild 14th March 1973 . I located 2 pics of Gary racing in the USA - See attached pics .

Maybe the fuel is extracted from the tank via the float sensor access hole ?
Will upload pics in a bit.
You will find 21A2331 the part number for the joining pipe between two tanks (14.40 GBP) as you are listing  as being in the UK.  One end goes to one tank the other end to the other tank.  The middle connection hose goes to the pump.

O.P. stated he was talking about the LEFT tank. Might it be a type of tank that takes an internal fuel pump?

How is the fuel exiting the tank right now? When I plumbed my secomd tank I removed the line from the body ( that lead to the fuel pump) and fastened that to the copper Y. Each end of the Y was then fastened to the tanks with a little tiny 2" braded hose.

Waitint on those photos.

Maybe someone liked the look of twin tanks but never finished the plumbing.
RH tanks were an option and not factory installed on Cooper S's until January 1966.

Not all Cooper S cars had dual tanks, also not all Cooper S cars are real Cooper S cars, sorry. Can you post car, boot, tank pictures? What doe the sender mount look like, 6 screws or bayonet?
