Hi Thanks
The pistons are flat but they have a straight flat ledge one quarter of the way across on the intake side no deeper than 2 mm and a circular ledge of the same depth around the rest of the piston circumference. In other words, the flat upper surface is shaped like a letter D. Sort of a flat three quarter moon pop up.
Still re-learning photobucket, sorry

12g295 is a standard head for a 998 Cooper. I'm not sure about the valve size, as I have a 12g295 but it's burried in my parts closet ha ha.. It's possible someone did work on it. Regardless, nice motor/head combination. are the pistons flat or dished?

I want to send the head to the machine shop but it does not seem to be the small bore type, since its heater outlet is not at 90 degrees. Its casting number appears to be

A rough measurement of the head chamber across the valves is 1 3/4 inches. The cylinder bore is 1 13/16ths. Can anybody tell me what I have here?
Thanks!!
