It is possible, but you will most definitely have to run aftermarket standalone ignition of some kind as there is no distributor hole.

Outside of the lack of a distributor I’m assuming my car is like any other spi and that can be accomplished of course at that point I will be ditching the AC
If you do not like the air bag steering wheel it can be changed out using a MGF boss from the UK, the MPI column has different splines than all other Mini's.
If in doubt, flat out. Colin Mc Rae MBE 1968-2007.

I test drove (for a friend) a FI mini that had been converted to carb and two mechanics had worked on it unsuccessfully.
Would die at any idle speed below 3000.
Was told by the third mechanic that the cam profile and/or cam timing for FI was altogether different than for carb engine.

So I purchased a very nice car with a MPI block/spi injection lets just say it was swapped in. the car is very nice with less than 60k km and is at a specialist being sorted out currently to make it completly reliable. Some day down the road I’d like to build it into more of performance car. I have an engine builder who is very familiar with building these motors in carbed form and a friend with a spare block or two. Would it be worth it to build up a motor now with the intention of swapping it in the future. Carbed of course or am I better off just starting with a fresh car for this build I’m planning on starting the engine build in the next few years as my builder is nearing retirement. I’d like to make at least 100hp without a turbo. So my main question is it possible to swap to carbs if I build up a block with a provision for a distributor
