I managed to source a mk1 wheel from the UK. Thanks everyone for the help identifying what I needed!

Not my car , but a good photo of a stock steering wheel, as used in all MK1 variants, just the center emblem changes for Morris or Austin. If you do not have the wheel yet, there are many really nice period aftermarket wheels to choose from. Many use the stock horn assembly, and go anywhere from $200 to $2000 No points will be lost for having a nice vintage one, as the stock wheel is kinda plain.

The screw that holds the horn button in with, also provides a ground point for the horn. Most (if not all) of the MKI steering wheels you will find are cracked between that screw hole and the edge of the steering wheel.

Thanks for the quick reply, you don’t happen to have a photo of that area by chance? I’m restoring a MkI Cooper and have never seen the correct steering wheel in person.

On mk1 there is a screw between the spokes that holds in the horn assembly, or the black Bakelite part and the push button emblem.

Is there a difference between MkI and MkII steering wheels?

How does the MkI center cap with push button horn attach to the wheel? Is it just a press fit?
