And while this may not be the exact HIF44, the exploded view helped me:

Ahhh, that helps considerably! i have been looking at a bunch of different exploded parts diagrams, but they were all engineering drawings instead of photorealistic views. The most helpful piece of that page is that I can click on any individual part to see a close up photo of each part. Now I can disambiguate the various seals that all look the same in a line drawing.

Thank you!

I cannot advise you on what goes where because I have only worked on one HIF carb.  However, I did want to post to reassure you that having left over bits from a carb rebuild kit may not be bad at all.  The rebuild kits are often generic and designed to address multiple versions of a carb.  Those extra parts you have may just be for another application.

I could use some assistance rebuilding my HIF44. As advised by every guide I could find, I took lots of pictures. Of course, I didn’t necessarily take the *right* pictures, but I’ve figured out most of my issues. I’m now stuck on two different points.

First, I can’t make out which o-rings and seals go back onto the starter assembly. There appear to be different versions, but I haven’t been able to figure out what I’m missing. I’ve laid out all the parts for reassembly, but I can’t figure out what I need for 38, 40, and 41 in the diagram from the manual. I believe that the o-ring that I’ve laid out is either 40 or 41 that fits into the slot on 39, but I’m clearly still missing something.

Second, after accounting for all the parts that I need to replace, I have parts left over from the kit! There don’t appear to be any equivalent parts that I removed that match these. That is never a good sign. Can someone help demystify what the remaining items are in the other picture? Are these just parts that I might need if I have a different version of the carb? Surely one or more of these belongs on the starter assembly.

Thanks!
Scott
