check your ignition timing. If it's out, it can "help" it to run hot.

kd i have not seen drain plugs on Mini's for years especially on an A+ engine, maybe i am mistaken but didn't they stop using them in the 60's?

Flushing the block gets all the gunk out. The drain hole is on the back of the block.
Check to see if the radiator is clean. We have seen cars come from farms that had rads coated in mud....
Water Wetter has the amount needed on the bottle. We use the better quality 5 year anti freeze but we have extremes here...

The super 2 cool radiator with the stock 11 blade plastic fan and a 180 degree thermostat works well here in Florida.
Do not use too much anti freeze you just need a little. The electric fan only helps in traffic once you are moving steadily the airflow is sufficient.
As stated flush the system if you have not done so as the rust builds up and causes problems.

Cool. Nothing to worry too much about then but will definitely keep an eye on it. I have an overflow tank and would consider the oil cooler. Thanks

Is the antifreeze old? Are you running an additive such as Water Wetter?
You can flush the block and see what comes out.
Also gauges lie... So take a heat sensor gun and read the actual temperature.
Mur's rad cap showed 260f yesterday but the actual temperature was 220f..
Oil coolers help too.

I agree with alex.. classic minis was NOT designed to run at 100 F plus , might try after market second fan.. tropical fan blade and even a over flow tank. ( the over flows tankfrom the OZ mokes are great and easy to mount on bulkhead.. later bc

Seems acceptable to me considering the ambient conditions.

Hey there.
is it normal for an A+ engine to run a little hot? I don’t have the exact reading but temp guage needle goes to about 3/4 of the way. drove the car for about 25 miles, given that it was over 100 degrees out here in NorCal. It’s normally my weekend driver. Last I see the gauge that high is on an 80 mile stretch last winter. Ideas?

thanks as always
