There were 4 different gearboxes in the first year of production from what I can find on the 1959 Mini Register page. The aluminum casing was introduced late 59' production with the 22A104.

was there ever a magnesium gearbox? Seems like it would cost more to produce and it's all about costs.

Probably a shot in the dark, but I am restoring a 1959 Austin CKD from NZ, and would love to find an 8A engine and any of the magnesium gearboxes (2A3707, 2A3708, or 22A77). I'd prefer to find either in serviceable condition, and nothing that is a complete train wreck.
Car currently has a 998 with rod change and pot joints. As my intent is to bring the car back to as close of a product as rolled off the Wellington assembly line, I need to rectify this. The car is very early, in the first 1500 vin numbers assigned to an Austin, hence asking for the Mag gearbox.
I have already procured a mid 1960 8AM engine on a 22A104 gearbox that will work, but figure it never hurts to ask what may be out there.
Let me know what you might have. Thank you in advance!
