on your 60, you will also need to get the correct locks, a rack and pedals, change your heater core to the other side and make new metal lines, move your dimmer switch and washer pump, and flip your turn switch

Someone a while back was advertising new ones in the classifieds here.
TBH losing the brake servo is not that big of a deal with a Mini after all you are only stopping 1500 lbs or less, a lot of owners think it increases the braking efficiency but all it does is decrease the amount of effort and with good pads and rotors there is not that much of a difference imo.

Not in a LHD country... BTDT... it can be a pain in the butt.

Toll booths, drive through banking /coffe shops are pretty much a no no.  And, sticking your neck out ...or rather hanging half the car out into the opposing traffic when checking before overtaking on a two lane country road can be a heart energising experience.....

Issy went to a fair bit of trouble to design the Mini so that it could be driven, properly, on the correct side of the road as required for this inane argument of LHD versus RHD to have any validity....

Cheers, Ian

Here's my 2 cents: I drive the Mini on the road sometimes, and, if I weren't racing, I'd convert my RHD to LHD in a minute. RHD is a pain, and can be worse than that if you have to pull out of a parallel parking spot, or pass someone on the road. You have to be WAY out to be able to see around the car in front.

Just a couple comments about RHD v. LHD.

Almost everyone who contacts me looking for their first Minis insists that it HAS TO BE left-hand-drive, that they couldn't even imagine what it would be like to sit on the "wrong" side of the car and shift with their left hand, etc.

I tell them that it will only be disorienting for the first couple days. As far as the shifting with the left hand part, people pick up on that without really thinking about it. What's going to be a bit strange for the first couple days is getting used to the rear-view mirror, because on their other car(s), you look up and to the right to see the mirror, whereas in a RHD car, you look up and to the left. For that reason, many Mini drivers tend to use the side-view mirrors rather than the rear-view mirror. As far as disadvantages, if you do a lot of driving on curvy mountain roads, if you pull out to pass, it's true, it will be harder to see around the car in front of you, but really, we're only talking about leaning over maybe a foot-and-a-half.

I tell them that part of the charm of these little cars is that they are British, that it's only proper that it be RHD - and besides, it's kinda fun going for a ride with your dog, because it looks like your dog is driving!

If they still insist they would need it LHD, I make them an offer. It used to be that I could have my local Mini specialist do a pretty basic conversion for about $600-$800 (albeit with exceptions), so I would say:

"Drive it this way for a month, and if at the end of that time, you still hate it RHD, then I'll pay half the cost to convert it." And, guess what, not a single person ever came back to me and said they wanted it converted! I'm sure most peoples' experience would be the same.

p.s. - Of course, regarding the conversions, as folks have noted above, there are exceptions to how simple the conversion might be.

Yea.... the biggest thing I think is changing the rack....but it's not that hard.
Just need to lower the front sub somewhat by losening the four bolts on top of the sub tower, remove the bottom bolts where the sub meets the floor, remove the nuts holding the rack ubolts and pull those out.
oh....also undo the engine steady up top.
Remove the pinch bolt at the bottom of the column.

You then just need to raise the body or lower the sub while body is supported. ( not by much though...steering rack can be wiggled out )

But in the end....IMO you should leave it original.  RHD isn't that much fun in a LHD country

A 1960 mini is easy to convert. The biggest task is to lower the subframe to get the rack changed.

As Mal says, it depends upon the year of your Mini. Other considerations, depending on the build date of the car: wipers, door locks, heater location, dash arrangement.

Where are you located?  It is an easy job if you have the new rack and the new pedals.

It is as easy as Nikbrewer says. Just change the rack. I am told the brake pedal in the pedal box is different but I have used the LHD in the RHD coversion with no problem. The gas pedal is different and I can confirm that. But it all bots in place moving the brake and clutch master cylinders and rerouting the heater hoses. You can even flop the heater core in the housing. All this assumes you have something earlier than an SPI.

trade me your parts as i am wanting to go LHD.  All you need is the steeing rack ( there will already be a hole in the floor boards for RHD) and a new clutch and brake petal.  However, we could just exchange pedal boxes and racks and be done

I will read what you posted but it seems that what it is saying is that it is the driver that would be the problem.

Still looking for something telling how to change it though.
