That's the Moke driver "screaming", right?

And here is an unsolicited email: "Hi, Are you the owner and (d)river of the yellow Moke I saw screaming down I-35 on Saturday morning? Very impressive if so! Wish I could have made it to the ABCD - wife likely not too happy about the idea.
Best, Tom"
I rest my case. Please note the qualifier "screaming".

Well Sir, you do have to show road rash, bug stains, petrol stain around the filer, oil around the dipstick, yo know those pesky things that us daily drivers of old cars have on our cars. I had my eyes peeld for the Guy that outwitted me for the long distance award. You know just in case I see it on a trailer being hauled out of town. It could be in one of the many enclosed trailers though. Sigh. Oh well.

One of the Mini folks told me one of the young MINI guys who was displaying his car told him that he had 340 hp in his 08 MINI. Said something about a friend juicing up the computer. That's about 210+ hp per liter. Hmmm.
Maybe the guy misunderstood. Maybe the kid said he had 240 hp.

Many of the new MINIs at the show were "second cars" and are not driven every day. Mine is (it is my only car). There were other makes making the same claims that were obviously not actually daily drivers. That class has a separate entry form (no additional cost) in order to be considered. The Mini that won is currently the only car the owner has at his temporary residence (normally lives in Colorado, working on a construction contract at Fort Sam in San Antonio).
Here is a link to some pictures from the event.

QS, Made the trip home just fine, didn't see many LBCs on the highway though. About 3 hours from RR to McKinney. The daily driver award winner was a '95ish classic Mini retitled by Downton using a '63 title/car number. Not sure you'd really need a rally clock unless you start doing TSDs (Time Speed Distance) rallies. I haven't checked my pictures yet, but there were some nice cars for viewing. As to new MINIs showing? I've been to different shows where you'd see brand new Jags and Land Rovers on the field, as if paying large $$$ made you an enthusiast. I guess it makes them feel good about their purchase. Cheers, Jim

Oh yeah a 75/90 Mini won a daily driver award. I chuckled, silently of course, one must mind one's manners especially in the South eh? The announcer was befuddled about the 70/95 bit but stated he assuemd Minis can do as such Oh and there was a new MINI there Jonesing for the same award. I mean don't this folks have any shame? I mean what kind of pride is driving a modern MINI as a daily driver brings?

Isn't that fun?! I hit a nasty bump on one turn and shorted my headlights and had to drive back to the hotel with hazzards on, tailing another Mini, but what a blast!

I just pulled in about 30 minuts ago from Austin to attend the TXABCD. Lovely drive, saw another part of Texas. For sure I can live in Round Rock some nice older areas there much like old part Sacramento. Lots of nice cars, alas no camera. Hope all the other DFW crew makes it home alright. Travelled for a while with a couple of MGBs on the road.
