Thanks, I'm really looking forward to the projects. Larry calls his mini a "twenty foot car", i.e. it looks good if you're twenty feet away or more!

P.S. Although both cars are in original paint, I'm not sure that the bonnet stripes on the '70 are original. Parnell mentions somewhere in the UK section of his book (I think) that the Cooper S never had bonnet stripes, but the Oz cars have totally different paint colors for any given year, so perhaps that is another difference. Anyone know? tx, bmc "Faith will move mountains, but you'd better bring a shovel..."

OK, thanks. I guess I had used Photobucket before, and had forgotten about it. Here's a picture of each car. The '70 is in much better condition, but both are in great shape. Since they are Oz cars, the '66 mkI has the roll-up windows, and the '70 mkII still has the mustache grill and small taillights. Lots of fun! ETA to me is now set at 9/4, can't wait!
I found Larry, and we knew each other by face, not by name. He works for the ambulance association, and I work for the fire department, so we cross in the night a lot.

Sure thing, but I think you'll have to coach me on how to attach the picture to a message? I see the directions below but don't have photos hosted anywhere. bmc "Faith will move mountains, but you'd better bring a shovel..."

OK, now that would be too weird. I am a volunteer FF/EMT with Bainbridge Fire. I will have to ask around, since we all know each other.
Thanks, I'll look up the others you mentioned. bmc "Faith will move mountains, but you'd better bring a shovel..."

Welcome to the board. You can check out Brooklands British garage on South Tacoma Way, I believe they are also on the net. Not specifically mini, they handle any/all Brit cars. Very friendly folks. Used to take my MGBGT to them. Do not recall his name, but there is a guy in Bremerton who is a wiz at rebuilding SU carbs. I took mine to him and I swear to god he gave me a brand new set back. He does it because he loves it and I was pleasantly surprised at the cost. But definitely check with the SAMOA guys.

Go figure ... there's another guy on the board that lives on Bainbridge Island. Don't recall his screen name at the moment, but recall he's retired, and a volunteer EMT or somesuch there. Anyone recall that info? As for referrals, check with the SAMOA gang right there in Seattle - surely one or more have good referrals for local shops www.seattleminiowners.com SE7EN

Ah yes. Location.
I'm about 35 minutes west of Seattle by ferry, on Bainbridge Island. Easy access to Seattle, Tacoma, Portland. Reasonable access to California. I forgot to mention that if I end up painting either car, I would be willing to travel within a few states to get to a good body/paint shop that is very good with minis. tx, bmc "Faith will move mountains, but you'd better bring a shovel..."

Hello all, Just joining this list, though I've been a lurker for awhile.
I'm awaiting delivery of my two new minis--both Australian Cooper S models, still in original paint, little to no rust, one MKI and one MKII. I'm beside myself.
As I begin light restoration on them, I was hoping to ask the list for suggestions on any and all resources. I have four books (Mini Performance Manual, Original Mini Cooper and Cooper S, Tuning the A-Series Engine, and Complete Classic Mini 1959-2000), and am aware of this site.
Are there other good mini forums, parts vendors, vendors of the original paints, etc.? Either in the US or abroad...
Any and all suggestions welcome, and thanks for any input.
best, bmc "Faith will move mountains, but you'd better bring a shovel..."
