MagDog Removes Engine Debris

Studies by industry experts, educational institutions, professional associations, and others have consistently determined that very small ferrous debris (often less than 5 microns in size) traveling through a vehicle's lubrication system may cause considerable damage to engine wear-sensitive surfaces.

Improving Your Mini Cooper Gas Mileage

by Don Racine
Most engines (and all Minis) use an electric spark to start the burning of the fuel/air mixture which in turn powers the car. If the engine is to run properly this 'electric spark' must happen at the exact right time.

Mini Cooper Verto Clutch Information

This article has been written owing to the increasing amount of people who ring Mini Spares stating that their 1275cc Injection type Mini will not start after fitting a new clutch, especially when they have purchased the parts from another supplier, usually a motor factoring company, rather than a Mini specialist.. There are 2 types of Pressure plates, namely AP (Automotive Products) and Valeo.

My girlfriends Mini has been running GB alloy wheels over 'S' brakes for about 8 years now without flairs. They stick out about an inch or so. No problems with stone chips or mud.

Cheers,

Kelley

British Sports Cars in San Louis Obispo.  Worth the stop for the eye candy alone.  That's a real Cooper S up on stands on the left for engine overhaul...several TR6s in nice shape for sale and a nice 1500 cc Midget for sale up front too, a Cortina wagon, alongside the E Jags, 150s, MGBs etc.

They even fix broken Aston Martins...

The "junk" in the B.C. collector licensed Mini is travelling "stuff" with Bogdan & Patti.  I left the trailer outside but my Mini is stuffed with "stuff" too in the photo!  3,000 mile trips have a way of loading up Minis.

DROOOOOOOL. Nice shot of what I consider the zenith of British motoring. And what's up with all the JUNK in the back of the mini?

Here are 165x70 A008s on 6" mags with City flares...

2008MMW219.jpg picture by HunnyPot_01

My Mini (in front) has 165x70 A008s on Minilite 5"x10", which fit under the City flares.

Offset of different wheels will affect relationship to wheel arch/bodywork.

Extra points for IDing where photo was taken (in California).

Ron,

Minilites come in 4.5" x 10" Cooper S offset too to fit under body work with S brake set up.  Look at Tech-Del's site.

"I was also wondering about stones/dirt/mud, flinging up on the side of the car?"

I thought that and covering up the wheel extension WERE THE REASON to use flares.  Or so I was told once upon a time. I am not sure how much would actually fling up but I wonder if a pattern of chips wouldn't appear over time?

I don't think we have a law on the flare issue either, I just like the look of my car without them. I was just wondering about fitting a 10x5 on there, and not having too much stick out. Anyone have the minilites 10x5 on their car without flares, so I can get an idea on how they will look? Dooder, what size are your wheels/tires? I was also wondering about stones/dirt/mud, flinging up on the side of the car? I am running the original 4.5 cooper s wheels right now.

What 4.5" wheels do you have at the moment?  Cooper S wheels? regular MINI wheels are 3.5" (also the other Cooper S wheels)

I had a set of 5x10's...didn't need flares (Oscam wheels)...ran 145 tyres

Ron, we don't usually have laws that say we need flares to cover up tires that stick out beyond the fender.

My tires stick out too. But I'm not adding flares either.

It depends on two things.

1.  Wheels for our cars come in a few offsets.  Some 5x10's you need flares, some you don't.

2. What (to you) constitutes 'needing flares'?  My car has a set of 6x10 Mambas.  They stick out about an inch or so.  I don't think I 'need' flares.

Would you need fender flares for a set of 10x5 wheels? In the future I may go with some alloy wheels, but don't want flares. Just wondering if  I should stick to 4.5x10?
