i had a black&decker electrical mower (with cord). it was much lighter than the gas models and also it was symetrical, meaning you could flip the handle on the other side instead of turning the entire thing - that would make it a lot easier for your girls.

OK what is ECO grass? Hey Mike, the girls have commited to mowing the lawn (even setting up a schedule of who does it which week) we will see how long that works. I like the thought of mowing with less noise. not hugging trees here just think it would be nice. I must be getting older because I made the mini muffler quieter.

Adam, Last week Kents had a zero turning radius mower on sale for $1999...looked real nice (like a La-Z-boy on wheels is what they remind me of) Not as nice as the Exmark ZS whatever, but still looks like you could sit back and relax while mowing. If I ever upgrade, I think that's what I'll go for. ~ 30 minutes in a Mini is more therapeutic than 3 sessions @ the shrink. ~ Mike NB, Canada

I own a large landscape maintenance business, hence a fleet of mowing equipment. My personal best...Exmark Lazer Z XS 60 in. cut, faaaaaassst! 2 1/2 acre of grass at my house, less than 25min. 100% efficiency 60in cut @ 12mph mph x width of cut (60in.) divide by 99= acre per hour at this formula it equates to 7.27 acres per hour!

'75 Simplicity 7016 Sovereign with 48" deck and 16hp Briggs. Super tough tractor that I also use to pull a 4x8 trailer around the property, pull bushes out of the ground and pull a 300# plug aerator around with. I accidentally hit the trunk of a 60' tall Ash tree with the front corner of the mowing deck as I was coming around it too fast last week. It took a 2" deep gouge out of the tree trunk and threw the tractor 6" to the side, nearly knocking me off of the seat, but to my surprise there was no damage to the deck at all. They don't build them like that anymore. May be overkill for what you have, but it will outlast anything the big box stores sell. "I drive a Mini. What are you compensating for?"

Have no clue what type of grass I will use. it will be what ever the dudes at the local seed a feed store give me. I think it is a blend of some sort. the lawn is flat with the exception of about 20 feet on the side of the patio, planning on a garden there anyway. and it is mostly sunny, there is shade but at one point of the day or another the sun is on the lawn.

You know the size of my yard Adam (2 acres). Bumpy rocky stuff. The old run of the mill lawn mowers just about put me into the hospital with all the jarring it did to my old back. . . .>>3-4 hours . It was too much. I bit the bullet 2 yrs ago and bought a used Kubota Diesel automatic/hydrostatic transmission. It has power steering, no shifting at all (just push "gas pedal foward or backwards) and the whole rear half of the deck rides on 2 big shocks. No back problems since. Also, has gobs of power and uses half the fuel my old Murray did and I do the job in 2 hours. Got to agree with Alex, can't beat Sheep or a Goat. They will crop the grass right down to the quick. The ratio we work with in Scotland is 4 sheep per acre, as opposed to 1 cow per acre. Had 60 of the wee woolly escapees at one time. Or how about some Geese? Tried them, but you'll need chest waders after some time, but they also do a great job as guards. Due to the Financial Downturn, the Light at the End of the Tunnel must now be switched off.

I used this in SoCal but sold it becasue it would be embarassing here in Texas. There's a John Deere farm dealership near me here. I am on first name basis with most of the Salesmen now because I've went in there to drool too many times

I remember the day my sister was mowing the grass with our old push mower back in the early seventies. She hit a piece of scrap metal (probably fell off my Dad's 100-6) that went straight into her calf! Mind you, this was before saftey equiped mowers became popular. But I would rather have my kids on a riding mower, up higher than the projectile plane. mtgibby "Democracy is two wolfs and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Given your pulmonary issues and you have teen daughters, this seems the best solution. less sweat, less chance of blisters or broken nails...
