            More significant events in the life of the Mini from the month of June.

 

Hydrolastic Just About Gone

            1971, June. Hydrolastic is dropped from the 1275GT, leaving only a few Mk III Cooper S cars to come with the wet suspension.

Minis in June - Mini Mania

 

Twenty-five Year Car

 

            1984, June. 25th Anniversary limited edition starts at 3,865UKP. (Total production: approx. 5,000.) Silver with red accents inside and out. Lots of “25” decals. Leather steering wheel. Radio/cassette. Most notably: 12” wheels and 8.4” disc brakes, soon to become standard on all Minis.

 

 

 

Minis in June - Mini ManiaNot a Cracker of a Car

1985, June. Ritz limited edition starts 3,798UKP. (Total production: approx. 3,725.) Silver outside with Ritz decals. Accented with Nimbus Grey. Multicolored interior. In other words, a Mini City with some fancy paint and decals – a similar theme to many of the limited editions and specials. Yawn.

1986, June. Piccadilly limited edition starts at 3,928UKP. (Total production: approx. 2,500.) A City E in Cashmere Gold. Dark velvet interior. Full width wheel trims in plastic. More yawn.

            1988, June. Designer limited edition starts at 4,654UKP. (Total production: approx. 2,000.) Black or white. Tied in with designer Mary Quant using her daisy motif and her signature on the seats.

            1989, June. Mini 30 (30th Anniversary) special edition starts. (Total production: approx. 3,000.) A little bit of a hint of what was to come.

            1990, June. Studio 2 special edition starts. (Total production: approx. 2,000.) Even more yawn.

 

 

 

Minis in June - Mini ManiaOn the Lamm

            1991, June. Seventy-five Lamm Cabriolets were built in Germany and completed by Rover in Cowley for UK sale. The first “factory” cabriolets.

 

 

 

Golf Tie-in?

            1992, June. British Open Classic special edition goes on sale. (Total production: approx. 1,000 for the English market.) Full length electric sunroof. A first for factory cars.

 

Out With the Lamm. In With the New

1993, June. Rover built Cabriolet goes on sale.

 

24th Mini Meet East

2002, June. The 24th Mini Meet East was held the 28th, 29th and 30th in Charleston, South Carolina.

 

Mini Meets West and East

2006, June. The 28th Mini Meet West was held on the 20th, 21st, and 22nd in Prescott, Arizona, and the 27th Mini Meet East was held on the 29th, 30th, July 1st and 2nd in Frederick, Maryland. (Starting in Seattle, it was a 10,000 mile drive, but I made both of them.)

 

Mini Meet North Unveiled

2009, June. The 1st Mini Meet North was held the 19th – 21st at Mosport International Raceway, Toronto, Ontario.

 

6th National Mini Meet

            2009, June. The 6th “national” Mini Meet, celebrating the Mini’s birth 50 years before, was held the 30th, July 1st, and 2nd in Winona, Minnesota.

 

2nd Mini Meet North

            2010, June. The 2nd  Mini Meet North was held the 18th – 20th at Mosport International Raceway, Toronto, Ontario.

 

3rd Mini Meet North

2011, June. The 3rd Mini Meet North was held the 17th – 19th at Mosport International Raceway, Toronto, Ontario.

 

32nd Mini Meet West

            2011, June. The 32nd Mini Meet West was held the 22nd – 24th at North Lake Tahoe, Nevada.
