    The steering wheel in most cars provide a great secure feeling to the driver. It is the reason why you can be confortable while turning, etc. while your passemger could be having a heart attach. BUT, it is for this same reason that the steering column bushing take such a beating. The bush is located in the top of the metal housing that the colum rotates inside of. Many early cars have a felt bush that has in later years been replaced with a much stronger and longer lasting plastic version. If your steering wheel moves side to side or up and down freely then the bush is probably wasted. It's easy to replace and thus easy to return that total control feel to your hand!
