We’d like to sponsor an entry in this Summer’s NEVADA CITY ADULT SOAPBOX DERBY. Those of us who attended last year’s inaugural race witnessed a great community event that benefited our local Pioneer Park in Nevada City, just around the corner from Mini Mania. In fact, our parking lot was used as a staging area by the teams competing in the race!
Despite the lack of snarling engines and howling gears, the gravity-powered event was just so much fun for participants and spectators alike. Mini Mania wants to reach out to the Mini community and invite your participation in fielding a Mini-themed “glider” to entertain the crowd and humble the competition.
Last year, details began to leak out about some of the local High-tech companies devoting “significant” engineering hours into their company sponsored cars. How satisfying would it be for a bunch of British car gear-heads to show these guys back to their trailers with a helping of humble pie (or perhaps “pudding” to keep it British!). After all, Minis have always been well ahead of their time- we had better fuel economy than a Prius 50 years ago- and still going strong! Plus, we’re a lot better looking!
So, we’re inviting all Mini-thusiasts to participate in fielding a team to coast down Nimrod Street on Saturday June 16th 2012. This can include everything from designing and building the car, to helping out on race day, always representing our group in a positive way to the community at large. We’ll be holding a design contest to accept suggestions and ideas no matter where you’re located, with regular updates on our web-site. If you’re in the Northern California area (or want to be) you can take part in the hands-on building of the Mini Soapbox!
Once we can confirm our entry, we’ll arrange to meet with local volunteers at our facility on Gold Flat Road in Nevada City right near the top of the race course to start planning for the fun, frivolity, and glory that is sure to follow.
