Now that the Mini Countryman has paved the way for larger, more utilitarian versions of the standard coupe, the company is considering something along the lines of a mini-minivan. Don't worry: there will be no sliding doors or swiveling seats.
Instead, it would most likely ride on the same chassis as the Countryman, but punch out all the interior dimensions to their limits. The result would be a vanlike silhouette and extra space for passengers and cargo.
An executive at Mini recently revealed that the Countryman chassis has the flexibility to add a few inches of wheelbase, so the space concept could benefit from a slightly larger footprint. A third row isn't likely, but extra cargo room and adjustable rear seats could be one way to make the space concept a little more useful than the Countryman.
MINI intends on showing a cargo van version of the current Clubman in late February at the Geneva Motor Show. The concept (which could be very close to production) reportedly will feature two seats and a flat load floor. Gone are the typical rear windows and in their place sheet metal for greater safety and reduced cost.
Rumor has it MINI wants to bring the version of the Clubman to market as a way to capture commercial sales in Europe that are currently not served by the MINI brand. It’s unknown whether or not MINI intends to import the car to the North American market.

I always thought a "Mini Cooper" was a "Mini Cooper", I accepted the Clubman even the Countryman, they were still "Minis"!!!!! But a "Soccer Mom Wagon"!!! "Sacriligious"!!!

I dislike the Countryman because it does not say "Mini" when you see it. And, I think these additions to the Mini vehicles is a desperate move by BMW Mini.

Why do you refer to this "concept van" as a CLUBman when it is based on a COUNTRYman platform and 4 door body, according to your PICTURES and your DESCRIPTION of the extended Countryman wheelbase?
You seem to be Countryman-phobic and Clubman-enamored.

I think it's great. I've been very tempted by the Mazda5; I don't need a full minivan (nor do I want one), but this is a people carrier for folks like us. Make an S version with a manual trans & good suspension & I'll be there.

To ckaminsk, it’s not a “pug” nose, it’s an “English Bulldog” nose! I think it’s kinda cute. Like John, we bought our Countryman over a Mazda5 because we could get all the toys (heated leather seats, manual XMSN, sporty performance/handling) that weren’t available together on the Mazda5. And we LOVE our Countryman, as do the members of our local Motoring Club. Nobody mistakes it for anything other then a MINI, neither that nor the Clubmen (Clubmans?)
And why shouldn’t “soccer moms” have a car as fun as a MINI? Should we be equally outraged by the new Coupe or Roadster? If these open up the brand to more buyers without sacrificing the quality and cache of the original, who’s hurt?

I think a MINI is a 2 door hatchback like the original I had years ago. I am perfectly happy with my 2006 MINI Cooper S. If I wanted a van, all wheel drive SUV or whatever I would one but not a cut up or stretched Mini. I realize that BMW is trying to stretch the appeal of this small car and increase their CAFE ratings but I would have no interest.
no no no nno no no no nono!!!!!!!!!! there was no mini van in the mini heiratage! i'm just barly comeing to terms with the fact that i love the countryman this is too much in my opinion mini is not a vaann making company. this kinda upsets me a bit, people that buy mini's dont buy them for the room they buy them for the driving expirence and or the heiratage, where is that ever going to even look cool? bad idea please dont make a "mini-mini van" not to mention it looks ugly you can only do so much with the features of a mini and a van is not something to stick them on. a van says "i am old and i just bought this because i have too many kids and all i do allll day is drive them around".. i dont see the word FUN in there at all! there is nothing fun about a van vans are not made for fun!!! hahah my last wine and ill be done i swear... what van has a manual transmition?!?!?!? k?! that should say it right there people that drive stick are usualy people that like to drive and like to feel their car vans usualy arnent made with manual transmitions because they are not enjoyable to drive. i vote no.. noo mini! NO! i can see how it can be cool but no its not

stop before you ruin the Mini. look at what happened to the big 3 companies, they kept modifying until consumers walked away. stick to what makes the Mini a great and unique vehicle.

Are you kidding? I have a decal on the rear glass of my classic Mini that says"How can anything bigger be called a Mini?" The renewed MINI is a very nice modern update of the Classic. Why in God's name does BMW insist on ruining this line? Perhaps what the English felt all along about a German company taking over there beloved little car is coming true. Please keep in mind that the classic body shell remained virtually the same for 40 years before the car was retired. BMW has just truned 10 years and has already proceeded to ruin this car in far too many ways. Keep the MINI like it's predecessor, simple model name changes and suttle interior designs. Why must you and everybody else involved with this abomination be so bent on ruining a good thing???

I would like to know who burped up this disgusting indigestion of a concept for a" Mini ,Mini Van"?!!Really people how can one call this a Mini at all. It looks so distorted, and out of shape, much like most of this countries figures. I feel like we are selling out to the masses, leave well enough alone, new and improved sort of thinking is not needed here. Keep the Mini a Mini not some bloated looking nightmare. And if you can't fit into a true Mini, perhaps you need to new and improve yourself, and enjoy the Mini the way it's supposed to be sporty and small!

I think it's great! A little snubby on the front, but it could become endearing. I drive a Mazda5 now and desperately want a clubman, but just don't think I can swing it with 2 kids and a good sized dog.
