Al,  back in the days , early 1980's we had a deal with the local scrap / tow truck drivers. $100 per Mini. They would drop them off at our storage shed and leave their business card under the wiper. Local scrap yards paid $25.00 for a Mini.. We got so many that off we had to take what we wanted and scrap the rest. Thinking back how many "good" cars were destroyed, it's a shame... But we were limited for space.
The storage yard got sold to the local train station and is now a parking lot..

In one go we sent 38 engines , all 998 to scrap!.
We were sorting what to keep and what to heave and then we piled it near the door to come back the next day.

My landlord called and wanted to know why we left our Mini Sprint outside the door?

We had not...
We were  broken in to by a scrap guy , he rolled the Mini out to load his truck! He he took everything near the door.... all the stuff worth money.. Of course we were not insured and even though he got caught he had no money to pay us back... He got $338 for all our "good stuff" . What a loss...

Still have a ring of keys from all the Minis we "scrapped" ... memories..

Deb: Can't remember that one,so just chalk it up to a brain fart on my part, however after having in excess of 450 of these little buggers pass thru here, can only remember the outstanding ones

# 1, Kevin's cabriolet in BRG, retrofitted to a MK1

# 2, Marts' (Martin Fontaine's) grey clubman estate wagon with carbon fibre panels

# 3, My original first mini, a 1969 mini van with a 1071S,had it for eight years, now sitting in an outfitters store in Holland Michigan as a display item

# 4, My first Moke, a U K model in white," nothing fancy just so far off the wall" it was scary

# 5, all of the other 446 minis that l owned and sold on-

 Full circle...

We like to call our Minis by the name of their original owner...My Riley came from Minnie Reese in Bude Cornwall., UK. in 1986.
The license plate was KTA... So she called it Katie and Katie Riley is what we call her because she is not  a "Minnie"...Seems that the governments keep paperwork way back now. Reminds me of the 1961 I picked up in NJ from Barry Savar, it went to Brian T in Ontario and somehow Big Al got it....the paper work from the USA importation had my name on the top. Big Al called me to ask about it...

The two beautiful 1998 and 2000 came in from Spain and had no problems passing their E tests.

And to go back even further, the van came from OZ to Peter Mustang in Florida about 12 years ago, l hauled it up to Kevin in Ottawa

I will never forget that trip, it was my first encounter with US Customs and the 72 hour hold policy plus the van was still on a NZ or an OZ title that looked like a large insurance policy

He probl em was that the van had never cleared customs in Miami and U S Customs in Lewiston NY were going to send it back

But after 3 days they agreed to release it and at 3:00 AM on a dark nite l dropped it off in Kevin's factory lot

History is full of surprises & so, it ends up 20 miles from me at Tamers'

Hey Tamer,
Sorry, yes you are now the owner of the van . The story that was being told was what were the chances too find the correct doors for the van from a different source. We were discussing the history of certain cars and where they are now...
Another Mini saved....

Actually, I'm the happy owner of that Ozzy van.
The shell is currently at the paint shop and its new drivetrain and a bunch of parts are sitting in my garage for it to return to be assembled.

The person who got the Aussie Van is Carl Luttes and he is a MMM member he was there with the 1971 Mini Cooper S V-tec.

That Green S was raced by Gilles Lazure at Mt Tremblant back in the day!

The doors he got still had the serial number plate on them and they matched the car he got from Kevin.

That is correct AL. I heard one of the guys (sorry I didn't get names) telling Kevin that the Aussie van shell that Kevin had sold on had been reunited with its original doors. Aussie doors being rare, having its original doors available was quite unusual. Maybe someone closer to the story will come by and provide more info.

I use the green button. It does not seem to work as smoothly as it did before the recent server updates - it seems to take longer for posts to appear too. I also noticed that if I tried to post more than a certain number of pictures, the process would stall. Try reducing the file size of your picture - large files take longer to process.
No, no pictures of me. I do not do selfies!

Sir Dan, how do you post pictures? The he upper left green button doesn't work for me anymore. And every time I attempt to post pic a message pops up that says "there has been an error completing your request "

And are you in any of those pictures you posted? I want to see how you look like

Despite Paulo breaking down along the way ; we had a good day. Got to meet some new Mini people and see new cars. Good to see that there were 17 Minis ... It was raining when we left Tim Horton's . It stopped raining by the time the Moke gave up the ghost. But one hour of fiddling at it was back on the road and it made it home too...

Dan,
Good to see you again and great pictures.
We gave the plaque to a non member. Simon Lacroix ; he drove from Magog to Kirkland to meet up with our convoy.
His exhaust system came apart and i directed him to a local Speedy muffler that has good mechanics that start at 7:30 a.m. on a Saturday!

He got in at 8:30 and 30 minutes later he was on the road.
Meanwhile we were stuck on the side of the road as Paulo's Moke decided to give up the ghost.
Keith was apple to fix it using spare parts from Rob and we rolled in two hours late!

As for the young man who drowned here  is the latest.

The fire department took the shortest route which was not the best route as 200 cars were leaving the show and people had parked down one side of the street.  The police came in from a side street.

Unfortunately the young man had been in the water too long to resuscitate.
Ottawa police told Radio-Canada Sunday afternoon that he had died. The 23-year-old victim is not from Ottawa and his name will not be released.
RIP

Yeah, a great day.

However, on a sad note someone (not related to the car show) drowned in the area behind the BMW MINI in the first photo. It is unclear whether he was swimming outside the marked public beach area or if his body drifted into the area. It happened shortly after Miguel (AKA MiniCord), Hill (the cabrio owner) and I had left the show. We were stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic on the park entrance road while an ambulance, a police vehicle and a firetruck were trying to come down. The road is 2-lane with overflow parking permitted on one side. Vehicles in our lane/row were ordered up onto the sidewalk, but we were able to hug the curb. The paramedics didn't wait to clear their vehicle, but proceeded on foot.

Looked like a great day Dan thanks for sharing.

Saturday: fantastic weather for a car show. All British Car Day 2017 was held yesterday. Only vehicles made in Britain, but of any age and variety. Featured vehicle this year was Land Rover, and they really turned out. But so did the Minis! 18 in all, including 2 Mokes, one cabriolet. 2 Mini 25's, and a couple of Cooper S's. No wagons, vans or pick-ups this year. The mainly Minis Montreal contingent was awarded the "traveled farthest" plaque, which apparently would go to their member who actually came the farthest. Bonus: I finally met up with Kevin Chappell!
