The storage yard got sold to the local train station and is now a parking lot..
In one go we sent 38 engines , all 998 to scrap!.
We were sorting what to keep and what to heave and then we piled it near the door to come back the next day.
My landlord called and wanted to know why we left our Mini Sprint outside the door?
We had not...
We were broken in to by a scrap guy , he rolled the Mini out to load his truck! He he took everything near the door.... all the stuff worth money.. Of course we were not insured and even though he got caught he had no money to pay us back... He got $338 for all our "good stuff" . What a loss...
Still have a ring of keys from all the Minis we "scrapped" ... memories..

We like to call our Minis by the name of their original owner...My Riley came from Minnie Reese in Bude Cornwall., UK. in 1986.
The license plate was KTA... So she called it Katie and Katie Riley is what we call her because she is not a "Minnie"...Seems that the governments keep paperwork way back now. Reminds me of the 1961 I picked up in NJ from Barry Savar, it went to Brian T in Ontario and somehow Big Al got it....the paper work from the USA importation had my name on the top. Big Al called me to ask about it...
The two beautiful 1998 and 2000 came in from Spain and had no problems passing their E tests.

I will never forget that trip, it was my first encounter with US Customs and the 72 hour hold policy plus the van was still on a NZ or an OZ title that looked like a large insurance policy
He probl em was that the van had never cleared customs in Miami and U S Customs in Lewiston NY were going to send it back
But after 3 days they agreed to release it and at 3:00 AM on a dark nite l dropped it off in Kevin's factory lot
History is full of surprises & so, it ends up 20 miles from me at Tamers'

Sorry, yes you are now the owner of the van . The story that was being told was what were the chances too find the correct doors for the van from a different source. We were discussing the history of certain cars and where they are now...
Another Mini saved....

The shell is currently at the paint shop and its new drivetrain and a bunch of parts are sitting in my garage for it to return to be assembled.

That Green S was raced by Gilles Lazure at Mt Tremblant back in the day!
The doors he got still had the serial number plate on them and they matched the car he got from Kevin.

Dan,
Good to see you again and great pictures.
We gave the plaque to a non member. Simon Lacroix ; he drove from Magog to Kirkland to meet up with our convoy.
His exhaust system came apart and i directed him to a local Speedy muffler that has good mechanics that start at 7:30 a.m. on a Saturday!
He got in at 8:30 and 30 minutes later he was on the road.
Meanwhile we were stuck on the side of the road as Paulo's Moke decided to give up the ghost.
Keith was apple to fix it using spare parts from Rob and we rolled in two hours late!
As for the young man who drowned here is the latest.
The fire department took the shortest route which was not the best route as 200 cars were leaving the show and people had parked down one side of the street. The police came in from a side street.
Unfortunately the young man had been in the water too long to resuscitate.
Ottawa police told Radio-Canada Sunday afternoon that he had died. The 23-year-old victim is not from Ottawa and his name will not be released.
RIP

However, on a sad note someone (not related to the car show) drowned in the area behind the BMW MINI in the first photo. It is unclear whether he was swimming outside the marked public beach area or if his body drifted into the area. It happened shortly after Miguel (AKA MiniCord), Hill (the cabrio owner) and I had left the show. We were stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic on the park entrance road while an ambulance, a police vehicle and a firetruck were trying to come down. The road is 2-lane with overflow parking permitted on one side. Vehicles in our lane/row were ordered up onto the sidewalk, but we were able to hug the curb. The paramedics didn't wait to clear their vehicle, but proceeded on foot.

If in doubt, flat out. Colin Mc Rae MBE 1968-2007.

make a car lighter and it's faster everywhere. Colin Chapman.
