Sorry for my poor choice of words. Sounds like you two spoke since we last met. Glad you are both free to move forward with mutual understanding.

Can you fit an automatic transmission Vtec engine in your custom made subframe or just manual transmission? Some people like me wants the convinience of an automatic transmission on a mini, i hate shifting

Spank, I wouldn't say he "flaked" on the deal. he just got cold feet because he doesn't have employees with good fabrication expertise. He has a big modern air conditioned shop with a lot of overhead to support, and our conversion business is currently only a one or two man, week-end operation.

The story goes: The business was sold just over a month ago following a handshake and a small deposit, but Steve feels the buyer has flaked out as the buyer hasn't followed through on the training that Steve feels the new owner requires with the tooling and jigs.
My impression in talking with Steve is that it is much more important to him that the buyer be as exacting in detail and tolerances as he is. The subframe he designed has zero fudge room in his eyes. Any potential buyer has to be willing to listen to and follow details that the buyer otherwise at first glance might not feel is that important.
Steve is a no-compromise kind of guy when it comes to this stuff. Deep pockets don't matter to him. Strong work ethic does. He would rather have it disappear into oblivion under his ownership than watch someone else run it into the ground.
I watched him go through this with his speargun business recently. I told his to just sell it, take the money, wash his hands, and walk away. But it's his baby. He can't do that. At least not yet.
just my two cents.

Well we are throwing in the towel and retiring just as the business has started picking up beyond our ability to keep up. My partner and I are just getting too old, blind and deaf to continue. This has been a very rewarding part time hobby-job for us, but it is time to turn it over to some new blood. You should have good fabrication, welding, and basic machinery skills, and a strong desire to do quality work. Email Steve for more info if interested. Local to So. Cal will work best for training and tooling/inventory transfer. Cheers, [email protected]
