if you are replacing the water pump, you might check the oil in the gear drive at the back of the supercharger.  There should be 1.4 oz of supercharger oil. When superchargers fail on the MINI, it is because this oil leaks out and runs dry, causing the gears to self-destruct.

As for aftermarket water pumps, I would recommend you stay with the factory pump.

makes sense, when you put it that way..
i was thinking along the lines of the added 17% pulley will have things running a little more hot so a better flow would be helpful. but didnt know if an aftermarket pump(s) actually have better flow than the OEM.

When I do repairs on late model cars I always use OEM. Look at this way the pump thats on there has been good for at least 98,000 miles assuming it got a new pump with the engine? I reckon you can't beat that with an aftermarket?

Mini's are like buses they come along in a bunch

whats up everyone, ive read this board for a while as a guest but this is the first time ive posted.
i searched water pump but didnt find what i was looking for, so if this is a re post or in the wrong spot i apologize in advanced.

i have an 04 cooper s body had 196k but the engine was replaced before i got it and it has 98k miles on it as of right now.
in a nutshell my water pump went and i was wondering if there is an after market water pump that is better than the oem one. i know some aftermarket parts are not better or in some cases worse than an aftermarket part, i was wondering if this is one of those parts.

i was looking at the airtex ones other than oem

i should mention everything is stock at the moment except for my powerflex control arm bushings (all around), and at the same time this water pump will be replaced an alta 17% supercharger pulley and belt will be installed along with a new engine mount. i intend to add upgrades in a few weeks with an air intake and etc.

sooo ya, whats your thoughts on an aftermarket water pump.... thanks
