you know what, i really envy jerseymini, he built a vtec mini and spent $0.00 , he bought a beat up integra with 300K miles on the odo, took the engine out with all the wirings and CPU and sold the remainings of the car. But, if you're going to ask me, yes i like the vtec mini, but i want the vtec mini with automatic transmission, because it's really a pain in the ash to shift when you are driving in a city where traffic is ridiculuous. My plan is to slap a good running 4 cylinder toyota rav4 with auto transmission in the back of my mini, put the radiator in front and run a long radiator hose that extends from the back to the front including the return hose.(to all of you who are pesimistic,,,YES it can be done),, as long as there is enough space, it can possibly done., the engine is quite big, so it means that there might not be enough room to put the shock absorber, so having said that, the rear wheels won't have a shock absorber.(only the front) the engine is a 1.8L DOHC 16valve. 4 cylinder. i may need to send the shaft to the driveshaft shop.com., the suspension arm will be cut short, i will use the original toyota hub and rotor and brakes, the rotor will be sliced to fit the mini wheels. the transmission shift lever is easy to install in front because it only works with cables, if cable is short, i can install some cable extenders. i really don't see any loophole in this project. only the engine mounting point is critical, engine needs to be perfectly aligned to the body. That's what a guy named Jacque Andres did to his bini, he slapped an engine in the back and run a 14ft cable from gas pedal to the carb.

NOW see? when i start my mini this afternoon, i didnt see any smoke coming out of the exhaust, whereas when i was in california yesterday, i start my mini in the morning and hell it was smoking like helllish, it was all caused by condensation, my gosh! no wonder this california MVD are so freakin strict with their smog law, they THOUGHT that the smoke were caused by worn out engine, they didnt realize that the smoke was caused by tremendous amount of condensation because their State is a very humid place, the humid air is sucked by the air intake and mix with the gas to get burnt inside the combustion chamber, the water content in the air is what makes the car smoke.(science guys,,science!!, try to spray water over fire, or try to burn fresh green leaves, it will smoke because of the water content.)), ...All carbureted cars in california is prone to smoking due to condensation, i cant believe MVD people didnt know it all these years...and they make their laws stricter for nothing.?? gosh!! i'm gonna put a message in their website tomorrow..

So i came back from an out of town trip with my mini, i must say that i was wrong when i said "who needs a V-tec mini" , , i admit i over estimated my mini, indeed, if you live in a big city or a key city, you really need a Vtec mini, i drive my mini in California and dang i thought i was doing fast but tons of cars are behind me flashing their lights, sheesh and i was going 40-45sh mph, I'm used to driving in az where cars are slower, and drivers are dork-er..... jizz, no amount of oil additive can make a mini run fast, there is always a faster car behind you if you are in California, my goodness, my mini doesn't smoke in the morning when I'm in AZ, but this morning in california, when i start my mini, it was smoking like hell, because of condensation, the roof is all wet full of morning dews but it did not rain, i dunno where all those water came from????? gosh ALL i got was a sore left leg ,stepping on the clutch pedal almost 10K times with all that traffic, gosh! and wife got sick so we went home earlier than expected., the next time i ever drive in California with a mini, i'll make sure it will be a Vtec mini, i will never never drive a 998 over there,,not even any A+ Lucas engine,,jizzzzz!!! Gawd i was so HARASSED this past 2 days!!!! i ate middle finger from mustang, camaro v8s drivers all day long my goodness!! But there were tons of people looking at my min and asking tons of questions, there was a firefighter guys who wants to buy it, but i said hmm,not now maybe later, i'm still driving it. NOW where is Steve Alexander? i need to get in touch with him about the vtec mini., he said he got the fastest car during the funkhana in Qualcom stadium. i wonder how much he'd sell me his yellow vtec mini (????)

...and no i dont live in meza Az, ...that made me less dork....Hahaha.,oooops!!

BOTTOMLINE: to me, classic mini can't be a daily driver in a key city or a city where there is a very high volumes of cars., hmmm? yes you can use it as a dailiy driver but the stress and headache is not worth it, you can drive it in interstate highways but not for long you will need to overhaul the engine in no time, it's just not for highway driving. i'm talking about the A series or A+ series engines(heck i don't care if it's 850cc or 1400cc,it still is A+ engine block.,(i dunno why they call it A+plus,i dont see any plus in it,aaanyways)..........that's my assesment.

AAAAAND another thing, if you are driving in a busy city you really need an AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION!!! that's a must!!!!!, gosh my left leg is still in sore.

But if you live in a remote non busy city like i do, 998 manual shift mini is enough.

interesting how "other people" would put THREE (3) layers of Dynamat in doors, roof ,back ,ceiling etc.. while some people like me can't buy,not even a tiny strip of these super expensive dynamat thingie. if you put three(3) layers that'll make the inside so quiet, I wonder if he can still hear other cars honking at him especially the incoming truck and trains.....

nah,not my cup of tea,, i'd settle with paper egg trays.

just had an oil change ,and dang! i can't believe that the engine is so clean..the magnetic drain plug thingy doesnt have anything clinging in it, no iron filings whatsoever, this is ever since i started putting a strong magnet under the oil filter, all the debris has been trapped inside the filter., And also since i have been mixing engine restorer with oil, i have been getting consistently high compression on all four cylinders....i'm so happy., im ready to hit the road this memorial day weekend.....now who cares about vtec minis??,, hmm not me!!! i love my 998....pretty fast and very good in gas,, ..and why do i need to go fast on a mini???i dont see the point.. if i want to go fast, i'd rather ride my fuel injected scooter...period!-----> if i want to flirt around, and spitting cherry seeds while driving,, i'd ride my classic mini.

You know guys, i totally agree with(you know who you are) , we should not settle with just what haynes manual and alec issigonis says,, classic minis has a lot of good potential, you just have to discover it, some people just confines themselves in a box, and refuse to learn, yes your car might have survived for 20+years without trouble but are you sure that you have maximized it's running potential during those 20 years?? Haynes will help you make your mini run yes, but Haynes does not tell you how to make your mini run BETTER. you have to find out for yourself. Now when i took off that darn crappy filter inside the oil filler cap, i noticed an obvious increase in power, no more suffocation... and also, im not ashamed to say that i use oil stabilizer every oil change, this will give extra protection for the piston rings, And since i bought my mini 3 yrs ago i have always been getting 165psi on all cylinders consistent.,, if i didnt use stabilizers, the psi would've been a lot lower. im not a purist and im not a restomoder niether, im just a simple mini owner ooozing with common sense and a person who is not afraid to explore and experiment when it comes to my mini.

After a few testing, experimenting and corellation studies, i have come up to an accidental discovery, my mini runs so much smoother,   Throttle is so responsive and it has developed a very relaxed rpm.

What i did:
1) took the hard clogged cylindrical filter inside the filler cap.
2) i maintain my oil level just under the low level  boundary line.  I dunno what it does but it sure gives more room for expansion air and oil when temp goes up.
Someone here  even wanted to put a plate inside the engine to make a shield between the transimission and the motor to minimize the oil splash inside the engine but i dunno that's too much,,, i call him Mr. Ramona., the western redneck. Aanyway.

Now im at our local starbucks, relaxing , sipping on my double shot latte, and thinking of more ways how to make my mini achieve more  Dp (donkey power) lol

Why Ian? did your almighty BMC knew too that:

1) the radiator has no Drain Plug?
2) that the oil seals are crunchy and that they are sensitive to heat, moreso to even use on an engine and trans that shares same oil?
3) that the rubber donuts works and WEARS 24hrs a day, while driving and when the car sits in the garage, the entire weight of the car sits on the poor rubber donut...  whereas spring suspension will still be spring suspension 20yrs from now... on the other hand, donuts will turn pancake in 20yrs
4) that the distributor and alternator were located in front of the car, so if people like the one i know would "power wash" his front grill, his 123 dizzy will get flooded and frys when he starts the car. , then he cries the next day.

....will add more as i remember them flaws..

Watch how the crowd Boooe'd whenever BMW Mini drives by,  in my opinion, these Binis should not force themselves to join the classic mini ralllies, to avoid embarrassment...they are just being Boooo'd by bystanders..     Edited::  there goes Ian again with his none sense on the other thread. Seesh!!

I dont care what you say guys but since i remove this filter inside the valve cover cap i felt an increase in speed and horse power, i just got  back from a 30mile trip with wifey and one 75lb dog and another 15lb dog. And the mini is oozing with horse power , my goodness, im so impressed!! I didnt tell you to follow my advice im just telling you my experience when i think out of the box. Im not afraid to experiment.  Success and failure is the best teacher.

well some pesimistic people might say, oh the dust might get inside the engine,,, Heck with the dust !! i dont care,as long as i gain power , and the throttle is very responsive, im happy !!!

AND i dont expect any replies, just digest what i say  and learn from it  !!!

EDITED: 5/18/17  just now!

... and with regards to the Re-vin topic, why would you want to purchase a mini from other countries and having to deal with re-vins etc, get minis from your country that has already been titled and registered, easy!!!. nobody will haunt you, and also, police won't stop you and bother to ask if your mini is revin or not, seeesh! this car is a show car, and cannot be a get away car, authorities are only concerned about cars which can drive fast and can haul contrabands or drugs.... minis cannot do that, my goodness!

but i dunno maybe there are other weird laws in CA, specifically in El Camino drive,Costa mesa,,,,,, aaaanyway..!!.

EDITED:
me personally, i do not consider my classic mini as an investment,  i just buy and enjoy it, whatever money i pay for it and every penny that i spent for maintenance, it's all sum up for my enjoyment , you can't buy happiness people!!! the pride and joy that this mini is giving me is priceless. i dunno why people keeps on buying and selling their minis,, stick with one and take good care of it like your wife

EDITED:
btw, dimitri is missing a car, it got stolen, lets help him find it...it's all over facebook, twitter and linkdn

..hmmmm, a 50yr old handle should still be firm and not sagging, but yah, a return spring is the way to go.  just use some imagination and you'll end up with an answer. ... think out of the box they say.

i've been noticing, FG is asking waaay to easy questions that can be answered by common sense...,,oh well, i almost forgot, i am a fabricator, where all things to me are easy fix...aaanyway
