PS

The new alignment settings seem to be a little less stable in 1st and 2nd gear. The more caster deffinately helped but i beleive it was a bandaid for other issues. Will be playing with it soon again..still very manageable and makes it a little more fun but will need to be adressed before more power.

I really dont get why these pics post sideways, must ve something with my phone.I know some gauges dont work i was in the middle of playing with the speedo tonight but said screw it and went out driving.

I truly have zero complaints...no its not perfect, everytime i go to work on it ...it ends up getting driven more then worked on .For me i like driving, can care less about looks lol i lookat it and im like...ok i can fix stuff...do this or that and makeit nicer...or i can drive ...lol

That d16z6 is fully dressed at that weight..

Your losing the power steering pump and AC compressor to put it in the mini

A series (BMC) with transmission and ancillaries, is about 282lbs

How much does a complete d16z6 motor weigh? - Honda Forum / Acura Forum - SuperHonda.com:

B18B1 = 350 Lbs Add 20 Lbs for a VTEC B18

D16Z6 = 310 Lbs

The A series apparently are HEAVIER then the D series motors from what everyone claims..honesty they fealt it when moving that hunk of 1275cc mess i had out of it lol almost died

Those d series motors are very very good running engines that rarely have any issues...and make around 130hp..small turbo and low boost and still super reliable making 200whp .Trannys are very friendly with the mini tires and 10s.

Now that we're talking about this my *current* philosphy is that you can build an A-series to approach the HP and save what I believe is 100lbs(?).

Swapping comes under the "significant project" category, in which case I would do a Zcars Vtec or R1 - which would devastate a swapped classic in safety, weight and of course speed and handling.

Yet another factor is that Vtec pays off with time and mileage - which of course are the A-series enemy.  Even having spent 10K on the drivetrain in the past 3 years my A-Series will aways be a ticking clock.

DONT USE JUNK EXHAUST GASKETS

God i hate exhaust leaks..changed the exhaust gaskets today(manifold, and the 4 into 2 one was GONE,also the donut) when i got done work and the water neck gasket removed and added silicone .Also did the valve cover gasket with a little silicone into the corners..tomorrow ill rebleed the coolant system as it leaked and sucked some air and surged. Also new shifter tomorrow as the ebay one snapped in half.

I need a headlight bucket...plastic one..anyone have one ?

I will be following with interest. I hope to pursue again the same path this fall/winter. Good luck with the turbo build!

Caster is your friend it seems...

I cant wait for more power,i could leave in first full throttle ..spin a little but not much ,pull 2nd and minimal spin. The D is good ,manageable when adjusted right..but for me i am not satisfied lol

3.72 final drive i have ..A000 trans ,165 falkens on 10s.Probably try the a032 soon after the turbo as well as a nice lsd setup.

I cranked on the small adjustable upper arm for positive caster...i eyeballed it and drove and it was messy, played with it more and more caster...got better but heavier wheel...then cranked more and all wheel spin and torque steer was gone.Caster was 12 degrees around haha it worked but was heavy on the wheel

Today at the shop i tried a setting similiar to someone elses build on 16vminiclub.

Caster 4.5 Camber -.5 Toe was out .10

It feels good on the steering wheel,im goingto be installing an LSD soon as well as a turbo.I willpost up how i like it when i drive it more over the weekend.Im going to have a few hour drive in it..i may want a little more caster

Neat =

Im driving one right now - D series - MInitek D frame- with Coilover front suspension

 - Its a handful No matter what.  kinda dont know were to go to make it more civil...

Just did the gas pedal mod to help the actuation - Helps.

but still - under hard acceleartion - car darts grabs and pulls EVERYWHERE- its really a handfull and sketchy in traffic.,

Can you share your alignment specs when you get complete? Expecially front end.., I wonder if this is a badly set up scrub or caster setting.  Its had an alignment before- tracks very straight - but when you give it the go- its super squirlly!

13x7 -4 inch backspace- downsized for 13 x 6 = 3.5 backspace REally helped- made it manageable - but its still LOOSE. If some adjustments can make it hook up better im all Ears.

Whats your setting in the back... Its like this car sits-(in the rear) lifts in the front) and looses traction and its everywhere!

Fun but not...

You will NOT regret it,his frames look awesome and i like how they keep the same geometry as a mini...wheel location etc.

There really is NO DOWNFALL...i have an A000 trans which has a 3.72 final drive...i Cruised down the highway with traffic between 2800-3000...unsure of mph as my speedo wasnt working..but i will never look back..

All of the off-the-shelf reasons are the same reason I'm woring to convert the LeMons mini to D-series. Steve Alexander has helped me scab together a subframe using his jigs and cast-offs from his Ramco B-series design subframe. We'd stalled at the engine mounting points. Why? Because he's so f-ing anal about precision and weight and whatnot.

Steve wants to make sure he is designing the mounts for the most commonly available mounting brackets. I've obtained 3 different motors and 2 different transmissions and he's got a motor and out of the 4 engines, only 2 have the same mounting style/location on the timing cover side and, according to his preliminary research, that style isn't the most commonly available in the US... But there's not catalog that he's found that he can cross-reference and verify this. Sure, it would be easy to scab in any sort of mount (like I would do for a 1-LeMons car deal) but he wants to make sure it is as easy to reproduce and easy for his customers to execute. Nothing gets his goat more than people buying his stuff then having it sit on a shelf in their garage. Well, a close second is a customer calling him and telling him his stuff doesn't work as he says it does.

Anyway-- I went off on a tangent. Thanks for posting-- I'm looking forward to putting in a D-series (I have 3 of the D16z6 motors) -- it was supposed to be done for testing by mid-June, but now I'm the one holding the project up with the fixer-upper house we bought.

Some day.

Some.

Day.

Custom stainless log manifold elbows,Ts,wastegate, and all flanges.Have a few turbos to chose from laying.Next few weeks itll be welded up and mocking up where the turbo will be placed .Not much room behind the MK1 grill but it will fit tight against the block and have a good bit of space between the grill and turbo.

Few years back i decided to do the D series minitec swap,i dont just have one project i have a bunch of cars i build and work on so im just updating this as i got back around to it the past few months a little here and there and its being driven as a normal car now.Not just up and down and around town

Drove lastnight, today to work...left work and drove for 5 hours straight nonstop.Ate dinner...and went for a latenight cruise for a few hours and in LOVING IT.A lot of people seem to talk negative about these swapped cars..and honestly..it rode better then it ever has.Few things need to be addressed obviously...but its not what people make it out to be.

Smoother,faster..feels more safe, runs cooler, far better highway cruising, clutch feels way better thanks to the the AP 14mm,fuel injection,Thottle actually feels great? Honda cable ...with a bicycle cable stop..Fuel system parts are off shelf parts, engine parts people damn near give away for the D motor, trans is a factory d series trans 3.72 FD , starts and runs perfect. No more waiting for shipped engine parts..any auto store or junkyard is lined up with parts.

I can barely stay in the house..its a fun cruiser but the D series motor for most would be great..but for me im already ready for more power.1st is very useable with this trans..1st to 6800rpm little to no wheel spin, hard shift to 2nd turns the tire a little but barely..165 r10 falkens.Alignment and more HP coming very soon.I have all the parts for a fully built turbo motor..but dont know how much power until it becomes useless.Going to take baby steps.

Not trying to start an arguement or talk bad about the mini motors...i really want another mini..i LOVE the white clubman wagon in the classifieds..id trade my BMW for it lol
