Dennis Racine will be racing against some of the best real vintage race cars from the west coast as he upholds the family racing tradition.
Dennis has been competing for many years with his own classic Mini in regional and national Autocrosses. His ‘green machine’ has been the standard to beat at most Mini Meets since the early 1980’s. The “Monte Mini” that will be raced at the Vintage Event has competed at almost every west coast venue for the last 25+ years. The “Monte” has been presented as a copy of the very famous factory rally Mini Cooper that won the Monte Carlo rally in 1967. The “Monte” has been preserved by Don Racine to very classic standards with a full race 1293cc engine complete with SU Carbs. Don Racine is the founder and president of Mini Mania, the largest worldwide supplier of performance parts and accessories for the Mini Cooper range of products.
The 2nd weekend in October marks the running of the 5th CSRG CHARITY CHALLENGE at Infineon Raceway. Appearing along with the myriad of exciting CSRG participants will be the cars of the Historic Grand Prix Group, the historic NASCAR Group and Formula Junior. This CHARITY CHALLENGE weekend is a great opportunity for CSRG and all of its friends to again contribute to a great cause – the needy children of Sonoma County and celebrate CSRG’s 41 racing season. Through Speedway Children’s Charities we have been able to donate $367K in the last four years to the needy children of Sonoma County. All of the receipts from the ticket sales, track ride-arounds, Friday night dinner, and live and silent auctions will again be donated directly to the Speedway Children’s Charities.

While it is very hard for Mini Mania to take credit for simply supplying parts to a loyal customer, we would like to share a series of great pictures from one of our customers. Bill Noon is an avid Vintage Race car owner and driver and recently contacted Mini Mania to help him prepare his very vintage Mini Cooper S to run one of the more famous vintage events in Europe. The Mini Cooper was
prepared in Bill’s shop in southern California to some very exacting standards.
All the pictures can be found here.
The “Tour de France Automobile” is being run under the wing of the “Automobile Club de France” and has been run almost annual since the first event in 1899. The event was originally open to performance cars of the car such as Ferrari, Matra, Lotus and in later years the Mini Cooper. Over 200 cars took the green flag in this European “road rally” that includes both competitive driving on open country roads and closed circuit
race tracks.

Studies by industry experts, educational institutions, professional associations, and others have consistently determined that very small ferrous debris (often less than 5 microns in size) traveling through a vehicle’s lubrication system may cause considerable damage to engine wear-sensitive surfaces. By contrast, a human hair is about 40 microns in thickness.

Gear Box Rebuild
Written By GuessWorks
Gearboxes may seem complicated but they are very simple in their construction, and surprisingly easy to put together. The main issues are having the right tools to do the job. So here’s a list of what you will need.
- Torque Wrench with a maximum range in excess of 150lbft
- 1 1/2″ deep socket ( a ball joint socket is ideal )
- Small ratchet and a long extension is useful
- Other sockets 1 1/8, 9/16, 1/2, 7/16, 3/8
- Small cold chisel
- Steel punch (1/8″ diameter)
- Larger steel drift
- Mallet (soft and hard headed)
- Small screw driver
There are three main rotational parts in the gearbox, the 1st motion shaft ( or input shaft ) which carries the bottom drop gear and what could be called 4th gear, the laygear which transfers the power from the input to the rest of the gearset, and finally the 3rd motion shaft which carries all the remaining gears.
First of all make sure you have everything you need…
